Club News
• 💗Volunteers of the Week💗 Rob Connell & Michael Schilling - Thanks both for upgrading our Come & Try classes & instructors to the use of sights on recurve bows.👏👏 Also to the small army (especially Sandy Dunstan) who helped prepare all the required equipment for this, & for repairing dozens of finger tabs. Without our helpful volunteers, our club would be nothing. 👏👏
• No Comps on 22nd of August - Due to a number of people being away for various reasons on that day, and because our Bhutanese friends will be using our (upper) facilities, we will NOT be holding any OzBow or Comp rounds on that Saturday. Apologies for any inconvenience. 😭
• Club Rosters - Mark Kluver💗 is taking over rostering (coaches/instructors/opening/closing etc) & managing part of the Come & Try booking stuff from 👏Martin Lau👏. As a part of this, if you have any rostering changes you can’t manage between yourselves, please notify the new email address which has been set up for this: ros...@centenaryarchers.org.au. Someone there will help!
• Please welcome our newest, fully approved club member: (Open) Luke Coles 👏

Etiquette
There is no “Finders Keepers” clause in the Archery rules. If you find an arrow that’s not yours, you don’t get to keep it. Check for a name or initials on the shaft. Show it to some other archers. Someone may possibly recognise it and have an idea who the owner is or if it is a club arrow. Otherwise, we put it in the rest of the lost & found items and hope the owner sees & claims it.
“Alternative” Archery Facts
Archery is relaxing as yoga except you get to shoot something.
Tip of the Week
🗲👟The Humble Shoelace👟🗲
Why do archers use a finger sling or a wrist strap? For an average recurve bow the arrow leaves the bow in about 10-20 milliseconds; in other words it’s gone before you can even blink. The average human reaction time is 150-200 milliseconds; 10 times slower. This means, in order to catch your bow you have to pre-emptively start to grab the bow before you release. You are moving the bow-hand & bow before the release. This translates to accuracy down range. Thus It is better to trust a sling to catch your bow; Or are you faster than The Flash?
Safety Tip
🕳Sinkholes🕳
When you’re walking at the rear of the archery field, especially on the left side of the field, please beware of & be on the lookout for sinkholes. The worst ones are marked with safety cones, but due to the recent rain, more could appear. They can be deceivingly deep, so please use suitable caution.
