Etiquette

Please keep your gear & possessions within your shooting lane allotment. Move it with you if & when you change lanes/targets. We commonly think that space is a limited resource only on the shooting line. It’s an issue behind the waiting line as well. If you have lots of stuff, consider putting some of it up against the containers, or against the wall under the covered area. When a lane overflows it can have a knock-on effect impacting a lot of your fellow archers.

If there is someone else’s gear in your lane, politely ask whose it is, and if they can move it. I haven’t yet met an archer who wouldn’t eagerly comply with that request.

ā€œAlternativeā€ Archery Facts

You’ve probably heard about the 10 steps of archery. A more condensed 4 step version is:

Aim. Shoot. Swear. Repeat.

Tip of the Week.

šŸ¹ Finger Tab Maintenance šŸ–

Is the leather on your finger tab all curled up?

  • Wet the leather a little and use a hot Clothes Iron with a tea-towel between the leather and the iron. When pressed, the heat and moisture will help set the leather straight again. Don’t press long. Very short presses are best.

  • When you put your tab away after shooting, try to do so in a way as to keep the leather flat or curled the other way. Store it somewhere it dries properly.

  • Some brands/models of finger tabs have spare leathers that can be purchased.

Have you checked your tab for missing or loose screws?

  • The screws that hold the tab together often vibrate loose. Use a drop of loctite/thread-locker/nail-polish on them to stop them vibrating out. Otherwise tighten them occasionally.

  • The club does have a small supply of replacement screws for common tabs.

Is the leather not as smooth/supple/slippery as it once was?

  • Apply a small amount of talcum powder to the leather. It will make it soft to touch and slippery for the string. It will only last for about one archery session.

  • Try using some fine-grained sandpaper to smooth the leather where it is rough.

Safety Tip

āž¶āž³ Check your arrows āž·ā‡

• Never shoot a damaged arrow! Separate it until it has been suitably repaired. It can be incredibly dangerous to you & your fellow archers.

• Before every archery session, check your arrows (and other equipment) for any damage.

• When walking back from collecting your arrows is the ideal time to quickly check your arrows. Has a nock been struck or come loose?; Has a point come partially out or been left in the target? Has a fletch torn or come off? It’s best to discover this before the start of the next end.

• If an arrow has struck something other than the soft part of the target butt, give the arrow a thorough inspection. When this happens it is quite common for nocks to crack or come off; points to partially or fully come out; Or worst of all, the arrow to be bent, cracked, or split. In addition to visual & tactile inspection, give any carbon shaft a good flex, then rotate the shaft 90°, and flex again! This can help expose mid-shaft damage.

If you’re unsure what to look for, ask an experienced archer, instructor, or coach.
