Club News

• Congrats to Ellen, Mitchel, & Sarah; who represented us at the National Target Championships in Canberra this week! Ellen (15yo) was only bested by an ex-olympian, after taking her to a one arrow shoot-off; Ellen managed 5th in the OPEN recurve division! 👏👏👏🤯

• We need some backup people to open & close the club during the week, see the TBA’s below. Bernd will be away ✈ so alternates would be great! 🙏

• The water pump at the clubhouse has been replaced. On tap drinkable water is back up there.🚰

• The club’s 2025 Talent Encouragement funding has been decided & awarded; Congratulations & Thanks to Ellen, Liezel, Mitchell, Ruth, & Sarah. The club was happy to contribute. 💸

• Please welcome our newest, fully approved club members: 👏👏

Etiquette

Want to shoot at the club during a time that the club currently isn’t open? If you can convince an instructor or a coach, they can open up the club for you at any time. They all have access. Really, the only thing stopping the club from regularly being open more frequently is a commitment by individuals. E.g. We could be open every Sunday etc. if a few people were willing to commit to opening & closing regularly. If you’re keen, there is nothing stopping you from talking to an instructor or someone on the committee about it. We want the club’s facilities to be used more by the membership, we just need volunteers.

“Alternative” Archery Facts

If you leave your arrows undisturbed buried in the ground long enough, they will eventually grow & multiply. Note: Your experience may will vary.

Tip of the Week.

🏹👀🔍 How to be coached 🏫🎓🎯

We have a large number of Instructors/Coaches at our club & there is almost always at least one at the club. Most, if not all, are very approachable most of the time. If you’re not sure you can approach one, we have our free regular Saturday 10am-12pm coaching lane available to you, or you can just ask them for short/quick advice. Most of that is also free. Longer & regular sessions may incur a fee, but that’s between you & the coach. Often you will need to approach them for help. Occasionally, they will offer it to you unsolicited. If the latter, feel free to say no, especially if you’re being coached regularly by someone else, or tell them what your existing coach has you focusing on. The only time they won’t respect that is if you’re doing something unsafe etc. Some people are happy to just fling arrows at something while some want to improve & go as far as they can in the sport. A coach can’t read your mind, they will often assume you don’t want or need help. Thus it is typically you who will need to make the first move.

Safety Tip

🌅 Summer is coming! 🌞

• Put on plenty of sunscreen. Re-apply it regularly.

• Wear an appropriate hat & sunglasses. Consider an umbrella when going to the target.

• Try to remain in the shade as much as possible.

• Drink plenty of water. Stay hydrated.

• If you start to feel unwell, dizzy, or faint. Immediately stop and let someone know. Heat stroke is a real & serious threat.

• The DOS will monitor the weather conditions & may close the field if conditions are bad.

• Ask the DOS if we can all shoot from the shade structure (add 5m to all distances)
