Club News
• 💗Volunteer(s) of the Week💗 Rob Connell, Lindsay Roux, Pierre Roux, & Bernd Martini
These fine specimens volunteered their time, effort, experience, and sacrificed their extremities helping out our state (SQAS) team &/or impartially judging at the recent National Youth Archery Championships down in Sunny, Windy, Rainy, Cold, Windy, Dark, Windy Launceston, Tasmania! Some of them started their days at 6am and finished well after 9pm. So big it up to these folks who enabled our (& all) kids to do so well down there. 👏💓👏💓👏💓👏💓
• Help Wanted Due to work commitments, ChrisK needs to step back from organising the Saturday club-level comps. Anyone willing to lend a hand to take this on? 🏹🎯
• Committee News: Don Dawson has officially stepped down from the role of Treasurer of the club. (Health reasons). The committee has appointed Darren Johnston as interim Treasurer. His tenure is until the AGM. Thanks go to Don for all of his efforts, we wish him a speedy recovery. Similarly, we wish Darren all the best in his new role with the club. Please welcome him when you see him.🤑
• The April Monthly medal comp was won (again!) by Lionel Smith🏅. With Terence🥈 & Bart🥉
• The next L1 Archery Coach course is Jun 27th. If you want to do it, talk to us ASAP to prepare. Don’t assume because you’ve asked previously that Rob or David remember your interest. Activitely make sure we’ve nominated you to SQAS. If you are 16+, been a member for over a year, and want to help others, this is a great opportunity!🎓
• Saturday (ANZAC Day) sees the club opening later than usual (10am) out of respect.🌅🪖🎖🛦
• Saturday (also) we will be hosting about 50+ Bhutanese Dart Throwers (Khuru) on the upper field, similar to late last year. Please take extra precautions if venturing over to take a look. Parking & toilets may be a bit chaotic.
• Today saw a large contingent of CAC coaches attend an Athlete Planning Workshop given by an internationally archery coach at Samford. Video to be available to those that missed it. 🎓🎓🎓🎓
• Please welcome our newest, fully approved club members: 👏👏👏
(U14) Alexander Kath, (Open) Michael Kath, & Miranda Tian
Etiquette
Talking & making noise on the shooting line is frowned upon, especially during competitions. While it is common for archers shooting socially to talk on & off the shooting line, it is a luxury, not a privilege. Please be mindful of other archers who may be put off by the noise or the conversation topics.
• If someone is making noise while you’re trying to shoot; Just ask them to stop.
• If that makes you feel uncomfortable or they don’t stop; Speak to a DOS/Judge.
• If someone asks you to be quiet while they shoot; Please respect their wishes.
“Alternative” Archery Facts
One of the many hard things about Horse Bow archery is keeping your horse inside your 90cm wide lane allotment.
Tip of the Week
🧹♻👨👩 Your Parents don’t work here!👵👴🧓🧹
Well, that’s not strictly true for everyone, but the point is, we clean up after ourselves. Always!
We have noticed a lot of people leaving club stuff not as they found it. You ideally should leave it better than you found if you can. This goes for all aspects of the club.
Some of the things we’ve seen done of late:
• Targets being left out on the field. (Bad! Always put your target butt away unless asked not to!)
• Used target faces not thrown out or put away/hung up! (Bad!)
• Reporting or FIXING broken gear immediately. (Good! On ya Dale for fixing a club arrow rest!)
• Benches left messy, tools not put away. (Bad! Thanks to MarkG & David for the recent clean up)
• Cleaning used coffee mugs etc. (Good! Thanks Sandy, ya legend!)
• Putting or leaving damaged arrows in the wrong places (Bad! Repairing them Super Good!)
• Not putting your chair(s) away when you leave! (Bad! Thanks always to the closing crew who have to address this!)
In short, we have no paid cleaning or maintenance staff. It is all done by volunteers. Our volunteers are you! To keep things as cheap as we do, we count on everyone chipping in, all of the time!
Safety Tip
🥊🦘 Kangaroos are wild! 🦘🥊
It’s Joey/Mating/Fighting season again at the club grounds. We need to be extra careful when approaching our fellow furry club members. We have had near misses in the past where a big male attempted to attack an adult archer when he wasn’t looking. Please remember, they are wild creatures. They can inflict serious injuries. Give them the distance, caution, & respect they deserve.
• Don’t allow children or short people to approach the kangaroos alone.
• Use overwhelming size & numbers when trying to scare off the kangaroos from the field. Don’t let someone try to do this alone. Help your fellow archers scare them off.
• If a big male stands up & starts growling or grunting; Back off! Get more help before proceeding.
• Don’t get between or close to a joey & its mother or a bull male. This can trigger them to charge & attack.
