Etiquette

You’re allowed to mark your feet/standing position on the shooting line so you have a repeatable stance for each end. You can do this legally with items that don’t protrude from the ground more than 2cm. E.g. Golf tees, pegs, chalk, even scuff marks. You are not allowed to deliberately interfere with another archer’s marks. It’s considered unsporting. While you’re allowed to alter the ground you’re standing on (e.g. to make it level, etc), don’t be that archer who deliberately alters the ground by digging foot holes to stand in & then doesn’t restore it afterwards. Just like in Golf, please replace your divots!

“Alternative” Archery Facts

Have you ever noticed that Cupid is a traditional barebow archer? It goes a long way to explain some romantic matches.

Tip of the Week

🛋 Don’t be a coach potato! 🥔

Want some free expert archery help? All you have to do is ask! Our club has eight (8) Level 2 & twelve (12) Level 1 Coaches. Under AA policy, only Level 2 (or higher) coaches are allowed to provide 1-on-1 archery coaching. L1’s technically can only provide entry-level advice. You can find photos & names of our L2 coaches on the club noticeboard. When available, we also have a dedicated coaching lane with signs, so keep an eye out for that. In short, most of our coaches would love to offer you free advice & help aspiring archers. If you want their help, the etiquette is to politely ask first, and if they are not busy, they then might spend a few minutes with you & give you some advice and some area to practise on. They typically won’t have spare resources to spend extended time with you, so don’t expect that. If you want more structured coaching, speak to our club’s Head Coach, Rob Connell. He may be able to personally take you under his wing, or direct you to another coach who has the time, specialist knowledge, & experience you might require.

Our L2 Coaches are: Bronwyn, Lindsay, Mark, Michael, Pierre, Rob, Sal, & Sandy.(none of them bite!)

Safety Tip

🏹 Stringing your bow 🏹

Compound bow archers have to use a bow-press when working with their strings & cables.

The rest of us all have to string and de-string our bows before & after use. The club recommends you either use the bow-stringing posts (top of the stairs, or between the main & gear sheds) or the use of a suitable dedicated bow-stringer device. Every non-compound archer should carry a bow stringer suitable for their bow with them at all times. It may be quicker & easier to use some of the techniques to string & de-string your bow using your legs or feet/ground etc, but doing so not only risks damage to your bow, but also the real risk of serious injury to yourself or bystanders. Therefore, the club does not recommend you string/de-string your bow without the aid of the appropriate tools. Using a $5+ bow-stringer can potentially save you a lot of heartache.

If you are unsure of how to use the posts or a bow-stringer, please feel free to ask for help.
