• Utes & trailers to help get & move gravel & sand from Centenary Landscape Supplies to the club.

• Trips to the Tip to take away some large items (foam etc). Tip vouchers available.

• Wheelbarrows & shovels to load sand/dirt/gravel etc.

• Put gravel in the driveway & carpark to fill in ruts, and drainage places along the concrete paths.

• Raise the distance marking pavers by putting sand or bluestone under them.

• Distribute sand in the boggy/muddy areas.

• Clear out & clean up the back of the Workshop Shipping Container.

• Move rarely used items to the “McFloaty” (White) shipping container.

• General whipper-snipping/weed-whacking.

Etiquette

If you’ve signed up for a competition event (in Archers Diary or not), if you can’t make it, please let someone know as soon as you possibly can. An absent yet expected archer causes a lot of chaos for competition organisers, the people setting up the field, and for other archers. Unfortunately, archers can’t just remove themselves or their registrations, or make changes to it. You have to contact the organisers for that to happen.

“Alternative” Archery Facts

How different archers view scoring an end:

Compound: “I calculate the score by subtracting the arrows that didn’t get 10.”

Recurve: “If only I could keep all my arrows in the Gold.”

Barebow: “OMG! I got a Gold! But why is there always one in the Black?”

Longbow: “Yay! All my arrows hit the target butt!”

Horsebow: “I’ve failed you Genghis. If only I had a horse!”

Tip of the Week.

🎼☔ I'm shooting in the rain; Just shooting in the rain; What a glorious feelin' ☔🎵

Said no archer, ever!

While we all like to be fair weather archers, especially the more social archers amongst us, Competitive archers need to take advantage of rainy days too; so we can practise shooting in the rain. Knowing how to cope with the problems the rain can bring (water on glasses, lenses, strings, heavier arrows, etc), let alone soggy clothes & feet, is essential.

E.g. Shooting in a rain jacket is different.

Remember: Competitions don’t stop for rain. Practising in the rain will give you a distinct advantage over archers who don’t.

Pro-Tip: Just like Don’t Panic!; Always know where your towel is!

Safety Tip

🐄 Tipping Target Butts 🎯

No, you don’t need to remunerate your target! You do however need to exercise caution when moving them. Always remove any arrows from the target prior to moving them. If it tips with them in, they will all snap.

If the target does tip over, it is NOT a one person job to remedy that. Always get help from someone else. One adult should pull on the handle, and chock one of the wheels with their foot, whilst the other adult lifts the top of the target butt.

Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance moving a target. They are heavy & tricky!

Story Time with Rossco - With friends like this….  🥾💩

I haven’t been to the Gold Coast Club in many a longish year. For some years they were a bit like gypsies, sort of like CAC was then. Every comp they put on seemed to be at a different field, they kept getting moved by Developments”..

Any Hoo…Roundabout 1995, they settled at Golden Valley Rd, Tallebloodybudgerra. Which was the MOST BEAUTIFUL, quiet spot, (except for the chainsaw fetishist who only seemed to come out for competitions. The field was. Well...lush green, serene, sheltered. It had it all. Even a readymade clubhouse.

Thick green grass, a cushion for your  feet . And a cover for hidden dangers…

Back then there were three of us CAC-ers who had a friendly rivalry for best compound score on the day. With Graeme and  I it really was friendly. Shoot & Giggle. But for Gazza…not so much. He was of the “had to win“ ethos.

So , psyching was a big thing for him, whatever he could do to unsettle. THIS one was one of his best…

We were not long into the shoot, coupla ends, when he fell about clutching his belly (such as it was).

I asked him what was up?”

“You gottit..you gottit !!!“ quoth he.

Seems there was one , only ONE, pile of slushy , reddish brown doggy-doos on this whole Gi-Bloody – Normous field & Gazz had managed to steer me into it on our way to the targets…He was so subtle about it too, sort of leaning towards me so I had to veer that way. He had spotted it early on, but I kept missing it.

Messy, smelly, business

I have to give him that one…don’t remember it affecting my shooting, but it kept him happy.

However .. The scores at the end of that Silver Arrow day, 19 Nov 1995 were..1st Greg Crick 1667…2nd Moi 1653.. 3rd Gazza 1611. ‘Nuff said…

Not that I’m counting, you understand..
