Club News
• 🐝👷 Working-Bee 🚧🐝 Saturday’s working-bee will require all skills. Plenty of jobs to go round. Things to bring (if you can): Shovels, Wheel barrows, Fire Ant poison, Trailers (for getting gravel from landscapers), battery power tools (reciprocating & circular saws/drills/drivers), daggy work clothes, gloves, boots. We will be moving & laying gravel, building target butts, lifting/refilling distance markers, making new target number signs, clearing gutters, fletching & repairing arrows, cleaning up the sheds, removing rubbish from the fields, taking things to the tip, …
No matter how strong or skilled you are, we will have something for you to contribute too.
As usual, NO ARCHERY (Except the C&T) while the working-bee is on. Free snacks, drinks, lunch, & a ground fee/hire credit for all worker-bees. Plus training too! eg. Learn how to fletch & repair arrows. We EXPECT to see you there. The more people who turn up, the faster we can achieve our goals, then get back to flinging arrows sooner! 🐝👷🚧🐝
• 💗Volunteers of the Week💗 All the crew (Bernd, Brian, David, Hayden, Kate, Darren, Bron, Ellen & Sanne) who helped out at the Sherwood Festival on Saturday arvo & evening. Hundreds of people had their first go of Archery with us. Heaps of kids squee’d with joy; So many enquiries & flyers handed out. It was a blast! (But today, oh is my back sore from picking up arrows/balls) 👏x💓x 💯
• RECORDS - Kristy is resigning from the Club Recorder role. We need someone to stand up and take over the role. It requires knowing a little about how archery competition rounds work, ability to scan scoresheets (scanner or phone app), and some light computer skills. Talk to former club recorders (David, Phil, or ChrisK) if you’d like to know more.
• Help Wanted Martin Lau will be taking time away from archery & the club. He is the awesome bloke who manages the coaching/open/closing roster & email reminders for the Come & Try classes. We need to find someone(s) to take over these vital tasks. They are not onerous, nor time consuming, but they are regular, ongoing, & important. If you have some time, please consider helping the club out by taking on at least some of these tasks. See David or Martin for more. 🙏
• The AA Open Field Championships are next weekend in South Australia; Good Hunting/Luck to our members who are heading down. Have a great time, & bring back stories! 🏹🌳🌲🎯🙏
• Please welcome our newest, fully approved club members: 👏👏👏👏👏👏
(Open) Cody Plum, Charles Glasspool
(50+) Nerrida Scott, Chong Leong Bong, Pete Shearer, & Carter Hilton
Etiquette
If someone on your target or the next target has lost an arrow, you should help them look for it.
“Alternative” Archery Facts
The politically correct term for a compound archer is, “Archery Challenged”
Tip of the Week
👶 Newbies & Archery Gear 🏹
Finished a Come & Try or Beginners Course, and joined the club? Want to get your own gear? Unfortunately, there is no simple single recipe to follow. However, we have a guide for beginners on gear purchases & choices. It’s too long to list here.
For most beginners, we recommend using hire gear for a few months. See the guide for why. For new archers that just know that this is the sport for them, then by all means buy your own good gear from the start. Just know that you will outgrow & replace some of it really quickly. Again, that’s all listed in the guide.
Safety Tip
🐄 Tipping Target Butts 🎯
No, you don’t need to remunerate your target! You do however need to exercise caution when moving them. Always remove any arrows from the target prior to moving them. If it tips with them in, they will all snap.
If the target does tip over, it is NOT a one person job to remedy that. Always get help from someone else. One adult should pull on the handle, and chock one of the wheels with their foot, whilst the other adult lifts the top of the target butt.
Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance moving a target. They are heavy & tricky!
