Club News

Volunteer of the Week: Kate Hall - or Queen Kate from Kateshire as her subjects know her by, brought home-made Ice-Cream for half a dozen (royal?!) food tasters on Saturday. That's all it takes to bribe some officials! Om nom nom. Thanks Kate! 🍨🍧🍦

• We will be hosting a free Archery morning for Veterans & their families on Jan 18th (Sunday). If you know any one who would like to give it a go, let them know! (Free via Invictus) 🎖🪖⚓🛦📯

• Sadly, we did not get selected in the last round of the Qld Gambling Grants; Brian’s great car-park-a-ganza has thus been put on hold until the next super round of funding. ⛔🚙🏞

Reminder: Did you get a new bow &/or arrows over Xmas? If so, and you are a new CAC archer (e.g. of less than a year), then please get it inspected before use. Often we will also help you do some basic tuning too! We want to make sure everything is safe & goes smoothly. 🎁🏹🛠⇈

Etiquette

The club has a sign-in/sign-out folder located just inside the workshop container shed for when you take club gear home. Please use it so we can keep track of the club's property. When you return the items, please have a committee member co-sign them back in & put them back in the correct spot.

“Alternative” Archery Facts

You’ve probably heard about the 10 steps of archery. A more condensed 4 step version is:

Aim. Shoot. Swear. Repeat.

Tip of the Week.

🎂👶👧🧑 Check your Class at the door 👩🧔👵🧓

Archery Australia groups archers into age classes based on the year you were born. The years defining the groups change every year. Whether your birthday is 1st of January, or December 31st of a year, it’s all the same to them. As of 1-Jan-2026, it breaks down as follows: (Congratulations to all those that have leveled up!)

U14 – Archers born in the year 2013 or since 2013

U16 – Athletes born in the years 2011 or 2012

U18 – Athletes born in the years 2009 or 2010

    U21 – Athletes born in the years 2006, 2007, or 2008

Open – Athletes born in 1977 to 2005 inclusive

50+ – Athletes born in the years 1967 to 1976 inclusive

60+ – Athletes born in the years 1957 to 1966 inclusive

70+ – Athletes born in or prior to 1956

Safety Tip

➶➳ Check your arrows ➷⇏

Never shoot a damaged arrow! Separate it until it has been suitably repaired. It can be incredibly dangerous to you & your fellow archers.

• Before every archery session, check your arrows (and other equipment) for any damage.

• When walking back from collecting your arrows is the ideal time to quickly check your arrows. Has a nock been struck or come loose?; Has a point come partially out or been left in the target? Has a fletch torn or come off? It’s best to discover this before the start of the next end.

• If an arrow has struck something other than the soft part of the target butt, give the arrow a thorough inspection. When this happens it is quite common for nocks to crack or come off; points to partially or fully come out; Or worst of all, the arrow to be bent, cracked, or split. In addition to visual & tactile inspection, give any carbon shaft a good flex, then rotate the shaft 90°, and flex again! This can help expose mid-shaft damage.

If you’re unsure what to look for, ask an experienced archer, instructor, or coach.
