Hi Centenary Archers Club members,

MONDAY PUBLIC HOLIDAY CHANGES

Due to the extreme weather (heat) forecast for Monday, the club is deciding to err on the side of caution, by cancelling the โ€œIndoorโ€ shoot & the planned BBQ. The club will be open very early instead (7:30-9:30am) to escape the heat and may remain open later in the day. Basically, if it is heading towards 35โ„ƒ or higher, donโ€™t bother! We will be closed.

Club Rule Reminder:

Only Target & Field pointed arrows are allowed. E.g. Broadhead arrows are banned.

February

Sunday, 1 February - Closed - Working bee - Undercover surface replacement at C&T end. ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿšง

Club News

โ€ข The Longbow Spectacular has been moved a week early (14th of Feb). Brian forgot he was attending the L1 Coaching course on the previous date. Dโ€™oh! ๐Ÿคฆ

โ€ข We will be replacing & trialing a new ground surface (compacted crusher dust) under-cover at the Come & Try end of the field. If it is successful, we will look to replace all the roadbase surfaces. ๐Ÿšง

โ€ข Robin Hood Alert - Michael Schilling joins the elite few by melding two good arrows into (n)one.

Etiquette

The club needs a handful of volunteers to help maintain the clubโ€™s arrows. E.g Replacing fletches. Without these arrows in working order, we canโ€™t run Come & Try classes, which brings in most of the club's income. Without that income, weโ€™d have no choice but to pass on the significant running costs to members. All that is required is a commitment of a few hours a month, which can be done at home in front of the TV. The club will supply all the training, tools, & consumables. Let someone on the committee know if you can help out.ย

Come to the 31 January Pre-Come & Try season Working/Fletching Bee ๐Ÿชถ๐Ÿ

โ€œAlternativeโ€ Archery Facts

Did you know that whilst shooting at clubs & during competitions there is an expectation of shooting in silence & you can be cautioned for making noise. However at World Ranking events & the Australian Nationals all have music blaring, and during Match Play events, the crowd is expected to not be quiet while people are shooting.

I know. *shrug* Archery Rules. Go figure!

Tip of the Week.

๐Ÿฆถ Footwear ๐Ÿฆถ

As target archers, we want a repeatable stable stance when on the shooting line. We want our weight spread evenly on our feet, with just a slight bias to the balls of our feet. Hence, comfortable flat soled shoes are the way to go; The flatter, the better. Beware that a lot of running/training/sport-style shoes have a more rounded sole. They will give you a less solid grounding and reduced repeatability & stability. Per safety rules, they must also fully enclose the foot.

Another type of footwear to consider are some waterproof boots. Archery fields can get very soggy & wet. Shooting with wet shoes, socks, & feet is no fun.

Safety Tip

๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ’จ No running ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ’จ

As a child, you were told & learnt to never run with scissors; Arrows are just as bad. So donโ€™t. Unlike scissors, arrows also like to embed themselves in targets at face height, and love pointing out of the ground at optimal angles for injury. Thatโ€™s all before we get to tripping hazards etc. The sport of Target Archery is not a race, there is no need to run, jog, or even power walk. The DOS will always wait for you to get behind the line safely.

To quote a very experienced SQAS archer: โ€œTake your time; Be quick about it!โ€.
