Hi Centenary Archers Club members,

_R.I.P. Henry Mann (1972-2025)_

It is with a sad & heavy heart that we have the displeasure of letting you know of the passing of one of our club members. For those of you who didn’t know him, Henry was a very impressive fellow. As big & strong as an Ox, and was as kind & generous as he was tall. Henry loved archery. So much so that he made his own archery equipment, especially several traditional English self-bow long bows. He even made ones from trees from the club grounds. A while ago, Henry donated one of his self-bows to the club (available in the hire shed). So, please think of him if you ever use it. I’m sure he’d be glad you were using it. We have limited details at the moment, but there will be a funeral service at Bowen Hills soon, details yet to be confirmed. Our hearts bleed for his partner, Agata, and his family & friends. He will be missed.

Club Rule Reminder

You must have proof of current Archery Australia membership on your person when shooting. (e.g. photo on your phone)

Championship Tournaments

SQAS Target Championships 14 & 15 June 2025 to be held at Samford. Entries close on 4 June.

MPB has a QRE on Saturday June 28th. Entries close 10pm Tuesday June 24th.

Etiquette

Please keep your gear & possessions within your shooting lane allotment. Move it with you if & when you change lanes/targets. We commonly think that space is a limited resource only on the shooting line. It’s an issue behind the waiting line as well. If you have lots of stuff, consider putting some of it up against the containers, or against the wall under the covered area. When a lane overflows it can have a knock-on effect impacting a lot of your fellow archers.

If there is someone else’s gear in your lane, politely ask whose it is, and if they can move it. I haven’t yet met an archer who wouldn’t eagerly comply with that request.

“Alternative” Archery Facts

You’ve probably heard about the 10 steps of archery. A more condensed 4 step version is:

Aim. Shoot. Swear. Repeat.

Tip of the Week.

Sick of filling out the form to check in your attendance at the club? …exhausted by having to walk over to the target container to scan the code? …frustrated that all your arrows aren’t in the gold*?

The solution is HERE!

This page will generate the link to create a button for your phone with your form already filled out!

Safety Tip

🥊🦘 Kangaroos are wild! 🦘🥊

It’s Joey/Mating/Fighting season again at the club grounds. We need to be extra careful when approaching our fellow furry club members. We have had near misses in the past where a big male attempted to attack an adult archer when he wasn’t looking. Please remember, they are wild creatures. They can inflict serious injuries. Give them the distance, caution, & respect they deserve.

• Don’t allow children or short people to approach the kangaroos alone.

• Use overwhelming size & numbers when trying to scare off the kangaroos from the field. Don’t let someone try to do this alone. Help your fellow archers scare them off.

• If a big male stands up & starts growling or grunting; Back off! Get more help before proceeding.

• Don’t get between or close to a joey & its mother or a bull male. This can trigger them to charge & attack.
