Club News

• Yay! The club is mostly back to normal after the fallout of TC Alfred. Thanks to the efforts of the members of the club who helped out. We still have plenty of non-critical items to move from the club house down to the field. Feel free to help out with that. 🌀👏👷

Committee news: Alex Hill has stepped down as a management committee member due to some new & ongoing health issues, plus other things happening in his life. He’s still an active member at the club, and we wish him all the best & a speedy recovery. 👏👏

Sarah Denman has taken on the role of being the club’s liaison officer with SQAS etc. 📣👏

• We have purchased several portable rechargeable LED work lights for use in the evening sessions. This will come in handy for the approaching darker months. 💡💡💡💡

[Help] We are looking for volunteers to help out with several administrative tasks & positions as the club grows & has gotten much bigger. Eg. Equipment officer, Membership officer, Project Management, you name it … Keen? Let us know! 👷

• Congrats to Ruth Chamberlain who competed in the high-pressure World Archery Vegas Shoot. In her first ever international event, she ranked 5th in her Age/Gender/Bow category! 📈👏🤩🌟

Etiquette

Working Bees are important to our club. Our club is a non-profit 100% volunteer organisation. We can’t afford staff or to pay people to do everything to maintain the upkeep of our club. Please consider donating a portion of your time wherever possible to working bees. It is only through the strong support of individual members that we will continue to succeed as a club. If you can’t attend the scheduled working bees, contact us to arrange other times and/or we have a list of take home tasks you can help with.

“Alternative” Archery Facts

Archery is fletching awesome.

Tip of the Week.

🔃 Upside down Miss Jane! 🔝

Recurve bow limbs often have a little sticker on them to indicate which one is the upper limb & which is the lower one. Yes, it matters. Sometimes that sticker wears off or the print is too hard to read. A quick way to tell without looking at the label, is typically the upper limb has the big printed logo/branding on the outer/target side, and the lower limb has it on the inner/archer side. That’s not a hard rule, but 90% of the time it works.

My guess is that the upper limb is blank on the inside, to not distract the archer. A logo on the top outer side is there for everyone else to see who's awesome limbs you’re using. The lower limb has it on the inside, to remind you whose awesome limbs you’re using.

Safety Tip

📯 DOS Whistles 📯

  • No DOS means No Whistle means No Shooting!

  • Two blasts: Pick up your bow etc. Approach the shooting line & select your arrow.

  • One blast: You may load your bow and are allowed to start shooting.

  • Three blasts: The end is over. Stop shooting. Return to the waiting line then go forth to score & retrieve arrows unless otherwise instructed.

  • Five or more blasts: Emergency stop! Do not go forward etc. Arrows must be removed from the bow, and bows lowered. You may remain on the shooting line unless otherwise advised. Shooting (and the timing) will resume after a single blast.

  • In short, if you hear any blasts after starting, immediately let down. Do not release any arrows. Remove any arrows from your bow to your quiver. Any blasts during shooting effectively means Stop!

  • If in doubt, Stop!
