• Extra congratulations to Bron🥇for backing it up the next day at the SQAS clout championships.
• We now have new shelving units in the Titan Shed for storing the new target faces. Thanks Bernd, Brian, & David. 🛠
• Many thanks to Alex. Arabella, Bernd, David, Damien, & James for helping out with the club’s stall at the Festival of Nations at Corinda State School. Much Archey. So Kids. Very Success. 🎪
• We are again desperately looking for volunteers to help keep the club arrows in good shape. It doesn’t take much time, but it needs it done regularly to keep on top of it. Please don’t let this task fall to the same individuals each time. ✋
• Challenge: Can you identify “Mr August/September”, our cover-worthy club member? 📸🖼🏹
Come and Try Bumper Stickers
There are more bumper stickers to promote the Come and Try events on the shelves next to the blank score sheets. Help yourself to one and display it proudly to help promote the club. If you would like a demonstration of how to apply them, see this video
Etiquette
Working Bees are important to our club. Our club is a non-profit 100% volunteer organisation. We can’t afford staff or to pay people to do everything to maintain the upkeep of our club. Please consider donating a portion of your time wherever possible to working bees. It is only through the strong support of individual members that we will continue to succeed as a club. If you can’t attend the scheduled working bees, contact us to arrange other times and/or we have a list of take home tasks you can help with.
“Alternative” Archery Facts
How different archers view scoring an end:
Compound: “I calculate the score by subtracting the arrows that didn’t get 10.”
Recurve: “If only I could keep all my arrows in the Gold.”
Barebow: “OMG! I got a Gold! But why is there always one in the Black?”
Longbow: “Yay! All my arrows hit the target butt!”
Horsebow: “I’ve failed you Genghis. If only I had a horse!”
Tip of the Week.
🛋 Don’t be a coach potato! 🥔
Want some free expert archery help? All you have to do is ask! Our club has nine (9) Level 2 & thirteen (13) Level 1 Coaches. Under AA policy, only Level 2 (or higher) coaches are allowed to provide 1-on-1 archery coaching. L1’s technically can only provide entry-level advice. You can find photos & names of our L2 coaches on the club noticeboard. When available, we also have a dedicated coaching lane with signs, so keep an eye out for that. In short, most of our coaches would love to offer you free advice & help aspiring archers. If you want their help, the etiquette is to politely ask first, and if they are not busy, they then might spend a few minutes with you & give you some advice and some area to practise on. They typically won’t have spare resources to spend extended time with you, so don’t expect that. If you want more structured coaching, speak to our club’s Head Coach, Rob Connell. He may be able to personally take you under his wing, or direct you to another coach who has the time, specialist knowledge, & experience you might require.
Our L2 Coaches are: Alex, Bron, Lindsay, Mark, Michael, Pierre, Rob, Sal, & Sandy. (none bite!)
Safety Tip
🎯🏹 Director of Shooting (DOS) 🦘🔔
You know them as “The person with the whistle”, or “Chief Skippy Chaser”. However this job requires more than being able to occasionally count to three (3) and herding kangaroos.
The first step to becoming a DOS at our club is to complete the free self-paced online Club Official training course provided by Archery Australia. Completing this course not only earns you a nice certificate, it improves your archery knowledge, & most importantly helps keep yourself & fellow archers safe. Thus it is open to, available to, and recommended to all of our archers.
