Club New
• New arm guards! We now have 36 brand new arm guards for use with the Come & Try classes and for general hire. The old ratty ones are gone! 💪⛨
• We have installed two (2) security cameras in both target sheds. They record timelapse images. Signs have been installed to remind you of their locations. 📷
• Because of the heavy rain & damage last Friday, the Sunday’s Working Bee was cancelled. We will be looking into trying again after the Easter holidays at the earliest. 👷🐝
• Internal lighting has been added to the Titan (Compound Target) Shed. Huzzah! 💡

Etiquette
Please keep your gear & possessions within your shooting lane allotment. Move it with you if & when you change lanes/targets. We commonly think that space is a limited resource only on the shooting line. It’s an issue behind the waiting line as well. If you have lots of stuff, consider putting some of it up against the containers, or against the wall under the covered area. When a lane overflows it can have a knock-on effect impacting a lot of your fellow archers.
If there is someone else’s gear in your lane, politely ask whose it is, and if they can move it. I haven’t yet met an archer who wouldn’t eagerly comply with that request.
“Alternative” Archery Facts
Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.
Archery: Trying to do the same thing over and over expecting a consistent result.
Tip of the Week.
🔍👀 The Metal Detector 🔉🔊
Losing an arrow is easy to do. Finding them, not so much. Especially with longer grass. For this reason, the club has a metal detector located just inside the target shed, on the left wall. It goes by many names: The Minesweeper, The Wand of Shame, The +5 Wand of Recovery, etc.. Don’t waste effort just visually looking for an arrow after the end in which it was lost. Go directly to the metal detector.
For optimal usage:
• Ensure all the dials & switches are set to their respective “gold” location marks.
• The “loop” is parallel to & as close as possible to the ground as you swing it.
• The cable is snuggly plugged in all the way into the control box.
• Test it detects one of your arrows before proceeding.
• Take small steps (~20cm) and complete a wide swing arc per step.
• Turn it off between ends. Setting the Sensitivity knob to its lowest setting turns it off.
• Ask a barebow archer for help. They have lots of experience with losing & finding arrows.
Safety Tip
🏹 Stringing your bow 🏹
Compound bow archers have to use a bow-press when working with their strings & cables.
The rest of us all have to string and de-string our bows before & after use. The club recommends you either use the bow-stringing posts (top of the stairs, corner of the undercroft, several places along the covered shooting structure, or between the main & gear sheds) or the use of a suitable dedicated bow-stringer device. Every non-compound archer should carry a bow stringer suitable for their bow with them at all times. It may be quicker & easier to use some of the techniques to string & de-string your bow using your legs or feet/ground etc, but doing so not only risks damage to your bow, but also the real risk of serious injury to yourself or bystanders. Therefore, the club does not recommend you string/de-string your bow without the aid of the appropriate tools. Using a $5+ bow-stringer can potentially save you a lot of heartache.
If you are unsure of how to use the posts or a bow-stringer, please feel free to ask for help.
