Club News
⢠AGM - The Notice and Call for Nominations is out. AGM will be on 27th of September.š
⢠š By-law Updateš The committee has revised the clubās āBlingā payment by-laws due to an increased cost of medals. We hope it will keep from draining the club coffers, yet still be generous.
⢠š°Fundraising Policyš° The committee has put forth a draft policy for Fundraising at the club. Before it gets ratified, we would like any feedback from the membership, so please have a read.
⢠š®Scam AlertšØ - Beware an outfit calling themselves Archery Pro Suppliers, supposedly in Victoria. Our network of archery sleuths have determined they are VERY LIKELY a scam. We strongly suggest you have no dealings with them. If you are ever in doubt about an archery vendor, feel free to ask around. This sport is rather small, so someone will know about them. The old adage holds, āIf something is too good to be true, it usually isā, even if itās only slightly too good. šø
⢠Volunteer of the Week: Brian Dymock has been using our new wheelbarrow to do some earthworks to try to improve some drainage, reducing trip hazards, and moving targets easier.š
⢠The raffle supporting our kids (Ellen, Liezel, & Ruth), who are traveling internationally, was won by: Emma Parateneš, Alex & Joslyn Farradaš, Marcus Annearš, Lionel & Georgia Smith š
⢠Working-Bee - Heads up, we will have a major working bee on August 30th. Save the date. š·š§
⢠Nest Alert - Beware we have a plover nest near the 60m mark on lanes 34 & 35. š¦š„š„š„š¦
⢠Please welcome our newest, fully approved club members: šš
(Open) Benjamin Quigg & Jaclyn Laytt

If youāve hired or used a club bow, please ensure you unstring the bow before putting it in the shed. Recurve limbs, under tension, in an unventilated shed equals a Sad Panda.
āAlternativeā Archery Facts
Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.
Archery: Trying to do the same thing over and over expecting a consistent result.
Tip of the Week.
Shooting regularly is key to maintaining & improving your archery skills. Make shooting on the weekend a regular habit.Ā
One of the fastest ways to improve your archery is to shoot more frequently. Consider attending the Sunday shoots.
Whilst shooting lots of arrows in a session can help build muscles & stamina etc., doing āqualityā arrows (where you focus 100% etc) is often better than many more āpoorā arrows (where you donāt really focus too much).
Safety Tip
ā The Dead Arrow Line ā
As regular archers, we are all familiar with the horizontal Shooting & Waiting Lines, but there is a third horizontal line you should know about, The 3 Metre (Dead Arrow) Line is just in front of the shooting line. Often we only draw it on our field during competitions, however it exists even if not drawn.
The World Archery rules (12.5.1) state:
An arrow may be considered not to have been shot if:
The arrow falls from the bow or is mis-shot and a part of the arrow shaft lies within the zone between the shooting line and the 3m line, and provided the arrow has not rebounded;
The safety part of this tip is:
If you ever feel you canāt safely let down from a full or partial draw, you can tilt forward & shoot the arrow directly into the ground in front of you and incur no penalty & no archer, arrow, or bow damage. Huzzah!
If for whatever reason your arrow comes off your bow and falls in that space, Do not retrieve the arrow unless you can do so safely, without moving your feet and potentially impeding a fellow archer. E.g. You can not cross forward of the shooting line to get it during an end.
If youāve got spare arrows in your quiver, donāt even think of picking up the fallen arrow. Itās just not worth it. This is why you have spares.
During a competition, let a judge know. Otherwise, wait for the 3-whistle signal before moving forward to retrieving it.
