Club New
• NEW CLUB RULE: Due to some examples of confusion, we are explicitly making an obvious common-sense response an official club rule. If the Emergency Stop signal (5+ whistles/beeps etc) happens ANYWHERE on our archery field, ALL archers are to stop shooting immediately! Doesn’t matter if you are technically under the control of a different DOS or you’re on your own. e.g. 5 lanes apart. In short, EVERYONE stops for an emergency stop.✋📣
If you’re the DOS on another part of the field, please relay the Emergency Stop Signal immediately.
• New archers: If you’ve only been shooting a small amount of time, our Beginner’s Course. Held over two Saturdays, is coming up the week after next. It’s highly recommended if you are fairly new to archery, and want to learn a lot more skill quickly. Register now! 🎓
• 🌞Summer🌞 is officially over (yay!), thus we will be defaulting to the concrete shooting line until it returns. If it’s still too hot, you can just ask the DOS if we can shoot from the shade! ⛱😉
• For those that are interested, the Archery Queensland(AQ) AGM notice & Call for Nominations is out. (See attached) 😴
• Congratulations to our club’s youth archers who’ve been selected to represent our state (SQAS) at the Youth Nationals in Tasmania. They are: Ellen & Sanne Martini, Ben White, Nate Angwin, Ruth Chamberlain, & Liezel Roux! 👧👏👏👏👏👦👏👏
• The results are in for our 🏹🌬💨February💨🍃🎯 Monthly medal competition. The gusty, swirly wind certainly affected performances. Instead of the most improved (favouring new archers), victory was determined by the least regressed!😲 🏅Lionel Smith,🥈Sandy,🥉David, & 🕷Terence
• Come & Try's: After a meeting of our instructors, as of 1st May 2026, our Come & Try classes will run from 9am to 12pm (noon), instead of the current 10am to 1pm.
• Please welcome our newest, fully approved club members: 👏👏👏👏👏
(U14) Eli Fletcher, (Open) Carl Lynch, Josh McNaughton, Ryan Richards,
& (50+) Stephen Fletcher
Etiquette
Last one shooting on a target? Congratulations, you have won putting the target back in the shed, even if you didn’t take it out. Using a club chair prior to departing? Again, we thank you for putting it away.
“Alternative” Archery Facts
Forecast for Autumn: The Archery Gods™ will only favour arrows fletched with Soylent Green, Fluro Black, and Infra-Pink colours. The archery equipment you ordered for Xmas will finally turn up this month, unless it’s for a compound bow, then it is the month after that. Abbey Archery will only be out of stock of 70% of the items you want. Hoyt will ever so slightly change something on their new bow, causing outrage, incompatibility, and then finally maxed out credit cards. For once, lost carbon arrows will be easier to find this season, just not yours.
Tip of the Week.
Shooting regularly is key to maintaining & improving your archery skills. Make shooting on the weekend a regular habit.
One of the fastest ways to improve your archery is to shoot more frequently. Consider attending the Sunday shoots.
Whilst shooting lots of arrows in a session can help build muscles & stamina etc., doing “quality” arrows (where you focus 100% etc) is often better than many more “poor” arrows (where you don’t really focus too much).
Safety Tip
🧔💇 Repunzel was probably not an Archer 💇🧔
Long hair & long beards don’t mix well with Archery. Well, actually the problem is they can mix very well with the bow string & the arrow fletches. The last thing you want is a chunk of your hair being yanked out with the poundage of your bow, or caught in the cams & cables of a compound bow. Apart from ruining your day, it can ruin your shot. (Some might argue this is worse.) So, restrain that glorious mane you have. Make sure it can’t be caught by or interfere with the bow string.
If you don’t think it happens, next time, check David’s beard density near his anchor point. 🧔
