Monthly Medal - The (belated) results of the May Monthly Medal Competition are in; El Presidenti (Brian Dymock) brought home the gong🏅; Bart Parr🥈 & Mark Kluver🥉. 🕷 to Jim & Phil. Remember, it costs nothing to be in it, & you have to be in it to win it! The Grand prize is a title,a bespoke trophy & an annual ground fee. 🏆👏

New Management Committee Member - The committee has appointed Jim Dobbin as an interim committee member, filling the place vacated by Pierre Roux. Jim’s tenure is until the next AGM (September)

If/when you forget to pay your ground fees or to sign in, you can now make restitution remotely. See our latest FAQ entry: “Oops! I forgot to pay my Ground Fees, can I pay it online?”

Volunteers needed: We have lots of small jobs that need your help with the upcoming Archery Queensland State Championships (Rego closes Wednesday 6pm) on Jun 20/21; Please consider helping out by grabbing some of the simple tasks on our list/run sheet here.

Etiquette

A little appreciation goes a long way for some of the more thankless tasks & roles around the club. Special mention this week goes to Lindsay Roux whose work includes being one of our L2 coaches, club Vice President, Archer Chauffeur, one of our liaisons with SQAS & AQ, SQAS Youth coordinator, Member Protection Officer, and probably a zillion other things I’ve forgotten to mention. Well done Lindsay! Keep it up. Give her a big “Thanks!” when you see her; Maybe even some chocolate too!

“Alternative” Archery Facts

Half of the “Intermediate Barebow Archery” class is “Advanced use of a metal detector”.

Tip of the Week

→⇉⇶  Buy the numbers ⬱⇇←

In addition to getting coaching, one of the best ways to improve your archery is to actually shoot more. (How good is it that you get better by having fun & shooting more arrows!)

A general rule of thumb is: (Lower end for Compound & Higher end for Recurve)

◦ Good Club level: 100-200 arrows per week, 1-2 days per week.

◦ Top State level: 300-400 arrows per week, 2-3 days per week; Some Gym.

◦ Top National level: 500-1000 arrows per week, 3+ days per week; Gym 1+ days per week.

International level: 1200-2000 arrows per week. 5-6 days per week;  Gym 3 days per week.

Safety Tip

✏✒🛂 All one form, or None for All 😭🚫💸

Signing into the club when you first arrive is a requirement. It’s not just something you should do later. It is important that you, and your fellow archers do this. It affects everyone at the club. If you forget to sign in, you might think, “sure, I won’t be covered by Archery Australia’s insurance; I’m a good archer, I’m not going to hurt myself or someone else”. That may be true, but if any archer at the club gets injured and even a single archer has not signed in, the insurance company can refuse to cover us all. I.e. Your decision not to is not only selfish but can affect everyone else negatively & significantly.

Note for New Members: You must sign in even if you don’t have an Archery Australia card or number yet. No excuses. Just sign in with a number of ‘0’ (Zero) until you get it.

MMMMMM Barry update:

Last weekend saw Liezel manage to shoot at the entirely wrong target butt in a Australian Open Field Bronze level match (& still win!👏). We are waiting for the “score” to add to the table, but it’s proof it happens to even the best of us at some point, especially in competition. 🥉
