Club News

April’s Monthly medal was awarded on Saturday. The Winner Winner, Bacon Dinner was: Sarah Denman🏅. Honorable mentions: Sanne Martini🥈, Ryan Clarke🥉, & Jim Dobbin🕷.

Jim Dobbin is looking to open the club regularly on Wednesday mornings. If you are interested, please talk to him at the club. 🔓🏹

• Thanks to the 12 members who showed up on a very wet Anzac Day to help with the working bee. A whole load of club arrows & target butts were repaired. Thanks very much! 🙏

Robin Hood Alert: Heming Ren made an unusual Y-shaped arrow last Monday. Take a look! ↠

Speed Shooting: We are going to experiment with a new type of archery competition at the club. One that favours our traditional bow-types more; Speed Shooting. Based loosely on a european trad archery format, an archer will shoot 6 arrows at a 80cm target face at 5m. The archer will be timed from the release of the first arrow until the time the last arrow hits the target. The archer’s arrows will be scored then divided by the time taken to shoot the arrows. E.g. A score of 42 which took 17 seconds to shoot, will get a final score of 2.470. Highest final score wins. 🎯🚅💨🗲💪

Etiquette

If you’re still at the club near packing up time, please offer to help. It really is appreciated. There are a number of small, simple tasks that can be done to make life easier. Eg.:

• Flip up the “archery in progress” signs at the top of the stairs & entry gate. 😍❤❤

Taking down the Red “Shooting” Flag 🥰❤❤

Packing up the chairs & tables. 😻

Taking the rubbish bin bag home to your wheelie bin. 😍❤💓💝

Help close the container & shed doors. 💕

Open the gates surrounding the field to let the kangaroos back in. 🦘

I can say from experience, any one of those being done helps a lot & is very appreciated.

“Alternative” Archery Facts

People think Archery is a hobby or sport. It’s not. It’s a post-apocalypse survival skill! 🏹 🧟

Tip of the Week.

At full draw we want the archer’s body to be upright. That is, we do not want the archer to be leaning back, away from the target, as that will result in the bow arm shoulder being too high. If necessary to get this right, start with more of your weight on the foot towards the target and lean a little towards the target prior to drawing the arrow.

Safety Tip

🥊🦘 Kangaroos are wild! 🦘🥊

It’s Joey/Mating/Fighting season again at the club grounds. We need to be extra careful when approaching our fellow furry club members. We have had near misses in the past where a big male attempted to attack an adult archer when he wasn’t looking. Please remember, they are wild creatures. They can inflict serious injuries. Give them the distance, caution, & respect they deserve.

  • Don’t allow children or short people to approach the kangaroos alone.

  • Use overwhelming size & numbers when trying to scare off the kangaroos from the field. Don’t let someone try to do this alone. Help your fellow archers scare them off.

  • If a big male stands up & starts growling or grunting; Back off! Get more help before proceeding.

  • Don’t get between or close to a joey & its mother or a bull male. This can trigger them to charge & attack.
