“Alternative” Archery Facts

Did you hear about the time Orion lost an archery match?

He was given a constellation prize.

Tip of the Week

🠈 A Pressing Need 📐

If you have insert or pin nocks on your arrows, you will know that sometimes they are hard to press in/on and turn to align the vanes with the bow string. Special tools exist to do this. However, you’ve probably already got a tool handy that will do the job just as well, & give that tool yet another purpose. It turns out that your common cheap bow square, which you should have already, is as thin as a bow string, and you can use that to push on & align your nocks. It works perfectly, & it’s a great multi-tasking tool.

Thank-you to the club member who kindly pointed this out!

Pro-Tip: Never push the nock in using its ears on a flat surface. They will likely buckle and render it useless.

Safety Tip

🏃💨 No running 🏃💨

As a child, you were told & learnt to never run with scissors; Arrows are just as bad. So don’t. Unlike scissors, arrows also like to embed themselves in targets at face height, and love pointing out of the ground at optimal angles for injury. That’s all before we get to tripping hazards etc. The sport of Target Archery is not a race, there is no need to run, jog, or even power walk. The DOS will always wait for you to get behind the line safely.

To quote a very experienced SQAS archer: “Take your time; Be quick about it!”.
