Club News

Volunteer of the WeekChris Kerslake - It’s hard to escape running into our Comp Maestro & Bling Officer🏅. He’s at the club every weekend (unless there is a big comp elsewhere locally), he runs most of our club-level competitions, and if you haven’t already noticed a bit mad about his love for the compound bow, and a bit mad from being out in the hot sun🌞. So, if you see him around (& you will), give him a big pat on the back as thanks! On ya Chris! 👏

• 💧Water💧- Still no drinkable water at the club house. And our cold water machine at the shipping containers is temporarily out waiting for a new filter. 🚰

• How about those Bhutanese Khuru players eh? If you were at the club on Saturday, you couldn’t miss them. They are a lovely & excited bunch. It was great to see. (photos) ➴➴

• Please welcome our newest, fully approved club members: 👏👏👏

(Open) Brendan Cuskelly, Jacob Snodgrass,& Craig Leighton

Etiquette

The water cooler doesn’t magically fill itself. If you notice it getting low-ish, please top it up using the big bottle of water next to it. On a very hot day, we can easily empty it twice.

If you’re getting a cold drink of water from it, please pay it forward by filling it up so the next few people can too!

“Alternative” Archery Facts

Nock Nock - Who’s there?

Archer - Archer who?

Archer glad you asked!

Tip of the Week.

🎀⇤ Brace for impact! ⇥|

Bow brace heights vary by bow, length, model, & manufacturer. Always check with the manufacturer’s instructions what it is for your specific bow, and confirm how they measure it. Typically it is measured from the deepest part of the hand grip at 90° to the bow string. If the brace height is not known, then a rough guide for recurves is:

  • 70 inch bow = 8.50 to 9.75 inches or 216mm to 248mm.

  • 68 inch bow = 8.25 to 9.50 inches or 210mm to 241mm.

  • 66 inch bow = 8.00 to 9.25 inches or 203mm to 235mm.

  • 64 inch bow = 7.75 to 9.00 inches or 197mm to 229mm.

  • 62 inch bow = 7.50 to 8.75 inches or 190mm to 222mm.

The general rule for determining brace height if the specifications are not available is to divide the bow length by eight. The ideal brace height for a bow is one that produces the quietest release with the least amount of vibration in the bow.

If you need to change your brace height, your main options are:

  • To increase; add more twists to the string.

  • To decrease; remove twists from the string.

  • Get a different length bow string.

Pro-Tip: The twist direction of the string should be such that as you grip the string and pull back, your fingers would be adding more twist to the top of the string, not less.

Safety Tip

👟🥿🥾👢✔ Shoes are a feet accompli! 👣👠🩰👡🩴❌

Archery Australia’s Safety Guidelines state:

“Covered footwear must be worn at all times while engaging in the practice of archery. Sandals or open toed shoes are not permitted while shooting or on the Field of Play.”

If your foot isn’t fully enclosed by a shoe, then you’re not allowed on the archery field!

Why? Arrows are by their very nature, pointy! In fact, the nock end is twice as pointy as the point end. Arrows love to bury or embed themselves into the ground and protrude just at foot height. Accidentally stepping on one or walking into it with a suitably unprotected foot is going to hurt and cause an injury. If that isn’t enough of a reason for you, then: Kangaroo Poo! Eeeewwww!

Before you even ask, sandals with socks? Just No! That’s a style issue, not an archery one!
