Introductory coaching course in Castleconnell,
Now is a good time to be thinking of the coming season. You may have coaches
In your club now but what about the next generation of coaches? Get them
started now and they will contribute more in your club over the coming
season. When bringing in new coaches it always helps to assign them to work
with a mentor, someone who will take them under their wing as an assistant.
Rowing Ireland will run an Introductory coaching course in Castleconnell.
Venue: Castleconnell BC
Dates: To be decided based on response
Time: 1st night Registration at 6.30pm, Course starts 6.45pm and runs to
9.30PM
2nd night 6.30pm to 9.30pm
Cost: 50 Euro payable to the Rowing Ireland
The Introductory course is aimed at those who are seventeen or older and
starting coaching under guidance of an experienced coach. It is suitable for
rowers with little or no coaching experience who wish to start coaching.
Also suitable for parents or other adults with no rowing background who are
willing to learn and help at a club. The course gives coaches the skills,
knowledge and qualification to act as an assistant to an experienced club
coach. These skills are primarily around safety and welfare issues, which
are fundamental to the care of people within the sport plus basic principles
and coaching skills applied to organizing training sessions. Coaches could
move on to Level 1 certification later if they did the Introductory now and
build up some hours coaching experience over the coming season.
Topics covered include:
- Coaching methods/how to coach/skills overview.
- Rowing technique overview
- Basic code of ethics/welfare of participants/safety
- How to run circuits training
Those completing the course, and the relevant tasks will be certified by
Rowing Ireland and Coaching Ireland (NCTC). (Send email to
