Hi!  I added an additional camera to my system and now i'm getting a system overloaded message.  I understand Camect has a limit of 36MP.  How can I calculate the maximum resolution per camera to stay under the 36 MP limit.

Thanks
Niten

The maximum total camera resolution we recommend is 24MP for regular home security usage.

For any individual camera, you can check the resolution by opening the camera settings and clicking on the "i" next to "Camera Name" -- but unfortunately you have to add them up manually.

If you get to 36MP the software will automatically disable some cameras to keep you under the limit so that you don't get stuck in a crash loop from running out of memory. However, it's likely that you'll start to get "busy" or "system overloaded" messages once you're over 24MP. If your cameras are pointed at scenes that are busier than typical home security scenes, it's also possible to get overloaded indications even if you're below 24MP. (That's a scenario that Coral can help with.)

Since people seem to ask often, it might be useful to add some information to the camera info display?

Current display is: "Size 2560x1440"

Maybe easier to understand: "Size 2560x1440 (3.6 MP)"

Perhaps total resolution could also be added under the hub info menu?

To Niten , camera MP conversion is to multiply the two resolution numbers and divide by 1024^2 to get your MP value.

+1 for a total MP under the info menu about device info.

Sounds good.  Then how do I calculate the total MP of my cameras?

Calculate the MP for each camera, then add them together.  8 cameras at 3mp would be 24mp    Likewise 12 cameras at 2MP would be 24MP.   4MP would be 6 cameras.    8 2MP and 2 4MP would 24MP

Hey Will!  Thanks for the info. That’s one step. But how do figure out how many MP is 3184x2160?  That’s what I have in the camera resolution drop down for example.

multiply 3184*2160  Take the 2 and multiply them  = 6,877,440  you Could say 6.8MP  Each  Really the most of those you could run then would be about 4 MAX  3 Really.

A lot of cameras you can have a secondary stream and set the resolution smaller and that is what you would feed to Camect for recording.   Or have multiple Camect boxes if you need full resolution.

Secondary stream is usually significantly smaller than the main stream, it's really just meant for an overview. For example I have a 4k camera that has a secondary stream of only 720p max. Some of the other cameras have an even lower secondary stream size.

You'll have better results turning down the resolution of the main stream to something you can deal with system capacity wise. You might only have to drop to 1080p then instead of all the way down to 720p for example.

I use the secondary stream for Camect and use the high res primary stream to record 24/7 on the NVR.  If Camect alerts (which work fine) on the lower res stream pick up anything of interest, I can use the time stamp from Camect to find what I need from the NVR.  Since the low res streams are so much smaller, there is no issue with the 24MP limit.
