Failed to mount error

I tried to use a WD 1 TB passport  USB drive but i keep getting a failed to mount /DEV/SDC1 error. I have the drive plunged into the unit VIA the blue USB port. I have it pointed to a Seagate NAS 8 TB drive on the network but the playback is super slow. That is why I am changing it.

What am i missing ?

Were you using this drive before, or are you just trying to get set up? 

If you're trying to get it set up, use the "eraser" icon to format the drive first.  If you don't see the eraser icon near the entry for the drive in the storage tab, you may need to first use the "eject" icon to stop attempting to use the drive.
