My HDD just died in my Camect unit. what is the recommended type/brand/size to replace it with. should I go SSD or, and if so, what should I lookout for?

The aforementioned Samsung 870 EVO at 1TB or larger is what we usually recommend, assuming you are asking about a 24MP hub. If you try something else, ensure that it has a TBW (i.e. durability) rating that's comparable to the Samsung.
