In the past I used to have an internet-connected doorbell that showed video, I have recently been investigating this again. As I don't want to use Ring (their privacy / cloud storage is unacceptable) or Nest (not open enough) I am considering something like https://www.doorbird.com as they support rtsp a video stream. Now I could use Home Assistant to setup a "doorbell" flow, but perhaps this could be an interesting additional feature to add to Camect at some point.

It absolutely is. The only difference between all these Hikvison rebrands is the cosmetic appearance (faceplates and so on), firmware and partnering app, and vendor support. Nelly’s apparently has the best US based support, but also costs more than others. I chose the LaView based on the faceplates and wedge mount that were included, and I have received some support from the vendor, but it isn’t the best support for sure.Regards,Russell

It’s should. The Nelly’s NSC-DB2, LaView OneHalo, and others are all rebranded second generation Hikvision doorbell cameras. They have 3MP sensors, IR illumination, and are powered by your existing doorbell transformer. The only downside is that they are only WiFi (no wired Ethernet or POE). The WiFi is good and doesn’t suffer the issues that Wyze cameras do etc, but you should still have a strong and reliable WiFi signal at the location where you want to install the camera.Regards,Russell

UniFi Protect will only work with UniFi cameras, but all is not lost.UniFi Protect will expose any UniFi camera as a virtual RTSP stream. This is in addition to the UP NVR recording the camera feed. So the UP NVR box acts as a re-publisher of camera feeds. Some people already do that to use a 3rd party NVR or as a long-term archive for Unifi NVR or for experimenting with ML/AI models on the camera feeds.Although UniFi Protect will not allow connecting 3rd party cameras that use RTSP or ONVIF, the UniFi cameras themselves run in two different modes: Native UniFi protocol or regular RTSP. Logging into the web interface in the camera hardware itself allows switching the camera to pure RTSP. However, when the camera is in RTSP mode, it will not work with UP NVR box. Not ideal, since if you want a pure RTSP camera, there are a lot of cheaper alternatives. But if you use UP NVR and later decide to ditch it, you can at least re-purpose the cameras into RTSP mode.Having said all that, the specs for the new VideoDoor bell do not indicate if it supports RTSP stream being re-published by the UP NVR or if it has native RTSP mode. Further, even if it does support either or both of these capabilities, not clear if the doorbell functions are preserved or it simply becomes only a camera. Since neither the UP NVR nor the RTSP spec support doorbell features, I wouldn't hold out hope.Ideally, it can be used with the UP NVR, with the Unifi Mobile App as a doorbell (Alerts, realtime two-way voice, etc.), but also allow pulling an RTSP stream for archiving or use as another camera.Lastly, I am talking about the Unifi Protect NVR which is the newer product (about 2 years old) and is a proprietary hardware box. The earlier system called Unifi video is still available and is freeware software you run on your own DIY computer. Both systems, UP and UV all use the same UniFi cameras. There are now, or soon, three versions of the UP box - the original, the UDP Pro, and a new, not yet released rack mount box with multiple drives/storage array configuration. In case you are wondering, yes, I have several Unifi Protect NVR systems and my Camect is on order, but not yet here. Looking forward to getting my Camect box to test with RSTP streams.

So I’m an Early Access user for Ubiquiti. The video doorbell you mention is listed on their site, but currently out of stock (that’s not unusual as early access product is made available in limited numbers). Key question is, can it be used with Camect over RTSP and/or Onvif. It was my understanding that UniFi Protect products can only be integrated with a UniFi Protect NVR and last time I asked, Ubiquiti had no plans to open them up to other NVR solutions.
