My camect unit emits a sound, like a spoon tapping on a ceramic dish followed by a dripping water sound 2 seconds later. It seems arbitrary but goes all day. Is this an audible alert of an object being detected or motion sennsed or is my unit preparing to crash?

I've never heard it described anything like what you said, but the only sound that most units make is fan noise which varies based on load. It's less noticeable when the the load is high enough to keep the fan running all the time ...

I assume you're sure the sound is coming from the device (rather than, say, an attempt to announce detections on a Google Home device). There's no audible indication of detections on the device itself.  Has your unit been making the noise from day 1, or did it start recently?

Perhaps you can make a recording of what you hear and send it to sup...@camect.com. I'll see if I have any idea, and, if not, we'll send it to the factory to see what they have to say.

Hi Daron, you ever figure out that sound?  Now that I have a completely quiet fan, I do as well hear a ping/beep sound from time to time.

Is it anything to do with the setting below? I tried turning it on thinking it would make the Camect box play an alert, but it didn't seem to do anything. What does it do?

The "speaker" option is an experimental thing we inadvertently included in the last release. I haven't tried it myself yet -- so no guarantees that it does anything. Feel free to try it and report back if you're curious.

Our device has no internal speaker. What that option does (or will eventually do) is allow you to play audio announcements to the headphone jack -- so if you plug in some speakers to the jack, you'd be able to hear verbal announcements of things being detected ... i.e. the same as what you can already do on google home or chromecast devices, but this works if you don't have one of those devices.

I love this idea, very cool. I would love to be able to have this turned on for only specific alerts, and use a custom sound (once you get this developed). It would be great to be able to wire this in to a speaker that could audibly alert a trespasser that they have been seen.
