It would be nice to be able to download recorded video by directly accessing the stored video clips. These could be offered as a read only file share (FTP, SFTP, SMB, NFS, etc.). This would make it easier to build summary videos for long video sections without having to manually move the download markers in the UI.

Alternatively, being able to enter time stamps instead of moving markers, but that could still be tedious for archiving many segments. A file share would be simplest and most flexible. It would also allow easily backing up ALL video without switching to a file share for recording video.

Actually that brings up a good question.  How is the video stored on the device?  As is the native storage format MP4?  What about file sizes?

MP4 can't handle some encodings ... Internally, we use mp4 were possible and mkv where not possible. We start new files whenever they're getting too large, or cover more than an hour worth of time. Motion video is also stored separately so that we can delete uninteresting motion ahead of interesting motion.

I don't think we'll make the device a file server anytime soon, as every open port is a potential new source of security issues, and in this case also a source of potential performance issues -- but if you want to have access to the files, you can configure your device to store to a NAS and then access the files directly from the NAS. Many NASes also make it easy to back up all the video automatically if you want a second copy somewhere.

Yeah, the reason I haven't added a NAS is that it's my understanding that Camect will split video across all configured storage. So I'd also have to disable storing the video locally. And then if there's a network failure or the NAS share drops video isn't stored anymore.
If I could configure a NAS storage as being a duplicate, I'd absolutely do that, but the current scheme doesn't work for me. Should I open a separate feature request for configuring "redundant" storage options? I sure hope this isn't a misunderstanding on my part and a NAS would already be considered a secondary, duplicate storage source instead of primary.

I agree that I would like the option to duplicate and/or use as additional storage. That should meet the various needs of users. I guess you could also backup to Google Drive and have files there, but that also involves uploading them to the Cloud which I know everyone doesn’t want to do.

Agree.  Ability to add NAS as redundant storage, that is a duplicate of on device storage.

I find it a little bit odd that I have no control over the file structure of my saved videos. I like to see what videos we're safe for what days timestamps dates and size for example....I wish would allow me to select those options and delete, for example.
