Hello friends of Cambridge Energy Alliance!

Fall is here and cooler weather means keeping your home warm without dipping into your holiday budget.  The best way to get started with energy efficiency is to sign up for a free home energy audit available for homeowners, renters and landlords.  There are also free business energy audits, so let you favorite business know how they can go green.

Events coming up include a Barnraising this weekend on Saturday, October 15th, the Cambridge Energy Alliance Community Book Club on Tuesday, October 25th, and a weatherization fair at Tags Hardware on Saturday, November 5th. Check out the CEA Calendar for details and more events every week.

We hope to see you there!

Best wishes,

Cambridge Energy Alliance Book Club

"Switch: How to Change When Change is Hard"

Tuesday, October 25th

7:00 - 8:30pm

Main Library, Lecture Hall

449 Broadway

Join Cambridge Energy Alliance Community Book Club.  Next month we will be reading: Switch: How to Change Things When Change is Hard

"Change is hard." "People hate change." Those were two of the most common quotes the authors heard when studying change.

If people hate change, they have a funny way of showing it. Every iPhone sold serves as counter-evidence. So does every text message sent, every corporate merger finalized, every aluminum can recycled.

By studying people trying to make difficult changes and succeeding, Switch uncovers striking similarities in the strategies they used. They seemed to share a similar game plan.Switch makes that game plan available to everyone, in hopes of helping people make the hard changes in life a little bit easier.

Our discussion will touch on making change in various areas from personal changes like weight loss to political changes like addressing global warming.  Of course, we'll also talk about community change like increasing our city's energy efficiency.

Read the book in advance and join the discussion or come to just share your thoughts on change.

SIGN- UP for a Free Pilot Project: Track Your Home Heating

One hundred Cambridge homeowners have the opportunity to participate in a home heating pilot project with a MIT-based start-up.   Monitor your fuel consumption, home furnace usage, and heating efficiency using an easy to install device that simply attaches to the home furnace with a magnet.

The web-connected device will produce a personal report that allows you to monitor fuel consumption so you can have a significant impact on your heating bills. The device installation takes 5 minutes and does not require professional assistance.  All you need is a wi-fi router and a power outlet near your furnace.

The start-up is looking for trial users to help test this device and provide feedback, in order to improve their final product. If you would like to be one of the first 100 people to use this product for free, email to me...@yshape.com
