Dear CEA friends,
In this email we would like to invite you to come see us tonight at Shop
Inman by Moonlight, share our newly-established Energy Advisor hours, and some information about incentives/rebates
to scoop up before they expire. We’ve also posted the results of our 12/4 CFL exchange canvass in
Mid-Cambridge, a job opening and free energy efficiency job training,
and of course details for an event coming up in January!
Cambridge Energy Alliance's Energy Advisor has been an active part of our operation for a long time. Now we are re-launching this service with a new component. You can be sure your call will be answered when you call during our Energy Advisor's in-service hours, Monday-Friday from 10am-12pm. Do you have questions about how you can become more energy efficient? Have you already installed CFL’s and want to take more action around your home? Wonder who to contact about having a home energy assessment completed? We will do our best to answer any question you have or set you on the right path to an answer. If you can’t call during our new in-service hours, leave a message for us any time or email eadv...@cambridgeenergyalliance.org with questions and we’ll get back to you as well.
Events coming up: Michael Blasnik will be giving a talk on real
vs. modeled residential energy savings at MIT on Thursday, January 13
(so save the date!).
Please take a moment to view the event description
below and consider joining us.
Best Wishes,
Jesse Gorden

Have you heard of “SmartStrips?” Computer peripherals like printers and
scanners, continue to use energy, even after you turn them off. It's called
'idle' current, and whether or not you’re using your peripherals, you're still
paying to power them. SmartStrips automatically shut
off your peripherals when you turn your computer off. Saving power and money! SmartStrips work with entertainment centers
and other appliances too. If you are an NSTAR customer and you hurry, you can
receive a significant discount on these useful tools before December
31st by purchasing them through Energy
Federation’s Website . While you’re shopping
stock up on other energy efficient items like LED light strings for holiday
decorating, air-sealing kits and CFL light bulbs. Perhaps you can make a gift basket and provide
the gift that gives back all year long: energy efficiency savings!

Results: Mid-Cambridge CFL Canvass
On 12/4 the CEA, HEET, the Mid-Cambridge Neighborhood Association, and CCEAG gathered at Youville House to conduct a neighborhood CFL exchange canvass. This event was another great success! Our 22 volunteers knocked on 667 doors and donated 396 CFLs to residents of Mid-Cambridge- saving an estimated $1,865 dollars and cutting 6 tons of carbon dioxide per year. Many thanks to those who made this event possible. We look forward to seeing you at the next one!

appropriate energy efficient lighting. The iPhone app is coming.
We recently discovered a great rallying point for communities of faith to take action as environmental stewards: Massachusetts Interfaith Power & Light (MIP&L) has dared community members to take the Noah Challenge, comparing the actions that Noah took to the comparatively easy energy efficiency ones that can be taken today. MIP&L shares success stories, and supplies other resources as well- all in the name of protecting Creation.
