to BV XC Ski Club

BVCCSC Members:

Our volunteer-powered club urgently needs a new Registrar and a Co-director of Nordic Centre Operations. These roles are essential to all aspects of the skiing and programs that our club provides.

We need to fill these positions well before the ski season starts, so don’t delay and let us know if you might be able to help. Also, if you can commit to a few years of volunteering, that would be ideal. Contact: feed...@bvnordic.ca

Thank you for considering, and remember,  you will be a BVCCSC Hero! We have your capes being created right now!

REGISTRAR

  • After many years of volunteer service to the club, Liz Osborn, our current Registrar, is stepping down. We need a replacement ASAP to allow registration to open by October.

  • The role of Club Registrar is essential for signing up for memberships, trail passes and programs.

  • The Registrar works from home & does not need to attend board meetings (a bonus!).

  • The past Registrar has a well-established system in place and can answer questions and provide advice to the new Registrar, succession planning at its best.

  • We use Zone4’s registration system (Zone4.ca). Familiarity with Zone4 is an asset but not essential, there is support from the past Registrar & Zone4. In addition to using Zone4, the Registrar will work with spreadsheets, and update some parts of our website.

  • The work is estimated to take several hours per week in September and October to set up registration then a few hours per month to answer queries and produce reports.  Registration closes by mid-February after which the Registrar does a wrap-up report of statistics and answers occasional queries.

  • A list of BVCCSC Registrar Tasks is attached.

CO-DIRECTOR OF NORDIC CENTRE OPERATIONS

  • The current director of Nordic Centre Operations, Steve Osborn, is willing to continue in the position but cannot sustain the current workload. Adding a second director will enable a more reasonable and enjoyable volunteer experience.

  • Since the 2021-2022 season, our General Manager has taken over much of the day-to-day work and supervision/support of paid and volunteer groomers.

  • The directors retain overall responsibility for Nordic Centre financial matters, strategic direction and dealing with major issues and opportunities (e.g. big grant-supported projects).

  • Directors attend monthly board meetings and communicate regularly with other directors.

  • The workload for the new director is estimated to be 20 to 40 hours per month during the winter months. Off-season tasks are mostly related to special projects and can be done as time allows.

  • The attached volunteer role description was written for a single director. The co-directors will decide how to split and share responsibilities..
