We would like to announce that we are now receiving donations for this event. We prefer to keep the costs low to encourage a maximum number of devotees to attend. Consequently, our overall financial resources are less than the amount needed and we thus request devotees to donate for this event at the earliest possible time while we are still involved in organizing and preparing for the event.

Sri Vyasa-puja Mahotsava – The Duty Of The Disciple

The Vyasa-puja festival celebrated in glorification of Sri Guru is most auspicious and it is the duty of every disciple to observe this. In Sri Bhaktisiddhanta Vaibhava, we find the quote that the abode of Sri Guru is greater than the abode of God. In Srimad Bhagavatam, Sri Krishna Himself glorifies Sri Guru and warns against the mentality of accepting him as an ordinary man since Sri Guru embodies all the devatas, and is declared by Sri Krsna to be Himself,

acaryam mam vijaniyan

navamanyeta karhicit

na martya-buddhyasuyeta

sarva-deva-mayo guruh

[SB 11.17.27]

One should know the acarya as Myself and never disrespect him in any way. One should not envy him, thinking him an ordinary man, for he is the representative of all the demigods.

Without the mercy of Sri Guru, we cannot achieve the param gati, Supreme destination. Knowledge, spiritual advancement, detachment – all come through Sri Guru and therefore in the process of bhakti we are taught to serve and please the Spiritual Master, yasyaprasada bhagavat prasadao, yasyaprasadanna gati kuto pi.

As one cannot cross over the vast ocean without a boat, favorable winds and a captain to steer the boat, so to cross over the ocean of material suffering one has to take shelter of the Spiritual Master who gives instruction to us to cross over the bhava sagar.

nr-deham adyam su-labham su-durlabham

plavam su-kalpam guru-karnadharam

mayanukulena nabhasvateritam

puman bhavabdhim na taret sa atma-ha

[SB 11.20.17]

The human body, which can award all benefit in life, is automatically obtained by the laws of nature, although it is a very rare achievement. This human body can be compared to a perfectly constructed boat having the spiritual master as the captain and the instructions of the Personality of Godhead as favorable winds impelling it on its course. Considering all these advantages, a human being who does not utilize his human life to cross the ocean of material existence must be considered the killer of his own soul.

Therefore all auspiciousness will be invoked in our lives, our devotional creeper will be nurtured and our devotional endeavors will be fruitful – by our glorification and service to Sri Guru on Sri Vyasa-puja Mahotsava. We urge everyone to attend this event without fail and also to understand that non-participation in Sri Vyasa-puja with the aim to attend another festival such as Makara Sankranti, Pongal cannot help us to advance in devotional service and get the mercy of Krsna; rather it is a form of offense to Sri Guru and Sri Krsna (navamanyeta karhicit) and this will impede our spiritual advancement. We hope to see all disciples and wellwishers present in large numbers for the Vyasa-puja festival for the transcendental pleasure of Guru Maharaja.

Please pass on this information about the Sri Tirupati Vyasa Puja to all devotees who are well-wishers/disciples of our beloved Guru Maharaja; especially those who don't have email access.
