to BVKS Sanga, (Krsna) Katha, (ISKCON) Lipa Dalmacija, Prabhupada Said
There was news that he was either going to come to London or somewhere else.
Like San Francisco or New York or somewhere else that was going to have a
Ratha-yatra. And so every day we would hear "yeah he is going to come here."
And then the next day we would be disappointed, "no he is going to go there."
You know it was this up and down thing [chuckles] every day it was different.
And so it was like we were thinking well if we have enough devotion he will
come here. You know everyone was in that consciousness, if we have enough
devotion and pray hard enough that he will come here. But then he didn't come
you know everyone was real disappointed and we were thinking that it was
because we didn't have enough devotion. But it was a real nice Ratha-yatra. But
Prabhupada came later he was in London that year for Janmastami and Vyasa-puja.
So he must have come you know a month later. And I remember seeing Prabhupada.
I was shocked he was in bad health, you know he looked really different. He was
in really bad health and he didn't come and give class at all, hardly. But he
managed to. He came into the temple room on Janmastami evening. No Vyasa-puja
evening and gave a lecture. I remember some of the things he said in that
lecture. He was talking a lot about hippies. How much he had compassion for the
hippies. He used to talk about the hippies a lot. How he had so much compassion
on these hippies they were confused and dissatisfied and how that was actually
the first qualification for taking up spiritual life. To be dissatisfied with
material life and then he said something really interesting. He said, he said
"actually Krsna created this class of hippies." He said "Krsna created the
hippies as a class of men from which to draw devotees." He said that. And we
can actually, we can see you know most of the, really devotees did come from
that hippie class of men.
And then another funny [chuckles] thing that happened. There was this big gang
of Indian people that were sitting right in front of Prabhupada's vyasasana
while he was giving that lecture. And they kept you know talking to each other
during the lecture, making a lot of noise you know. Like it was a real
disturbing everyone. But none of the devotees knew what to do. Should we tell
them to be quiet, we didn't want to offend them. They were sitting like right
in front of the vyasasana making a lot.. And then right.. All of a sudden right
in the middle of the lecture they started to leave, you know like they one by
one they like stood up and they had to climb over all these people. It was the
old Bury Place temple, it was real small temple room. For to get out they had
to climb, make a big disturbance. One by one you know it was a big [chuckles].
Right in the middle of the lecture got up and started to leave. And each time
it caused such a disturbance. Finally Prabhupada just stopped speaking and
waited until they all just sort of filed out and then after they were all gone
he said, he said "just see." He said "you cannot bring in dogs and cats and
expect them to sit and listen" [chuckles] and then he just went on with his
talk. But I remember those two things from that lecture.
