Braver Faith has a lot happening

Organizer Training is ON

You may have noticed BA has a lot of events. And they run (mostly) smoothly! That’s because we train our organizers in planning, messaging, execution, and follow-up. We take that behind-the-scenes work seriously: being a courageous citizen is hard enough without worrying about whether your Zoom is glitching. As we head into the Convention, our online Organizer Training is in full swing. Intro to Organizing is useful for Alliance Co-Chairs and State Coordinators, as well as anyone who wants to become a qualified BA Organizer. Sign up to learn via short modules each Wednesday in May (starts tonight!) or in one Crash Course on June 6, 11am-5pm ET.

Volunteer Spotlight in Philly!

At this year’s National Convention, we’re introducing the Alliance Volunteer Impact Spotlight—an opportunity to highlight volunteers whose work is strengthening their communities and advancing courageous citizenship across our Alliances. These spotlights will elevate real examples of impact, so Alliance Co-Chairs, please take a moment to nominate an outstanding volunteer. The nomination window is open May 1- 15. For details, including how to submit a nomination, click here.

Braver Faith has its own monthly newsletter (read it here) as well as a webpage full of information, pathways to participation, and ways to connect. Don't stop scrolling this publication, but go to Braver Faith next!

IN THE NEWS

What’s bridge-builder Corey Nathan’s standard for creating change in conversations across the divide? “1 degree, not 180.”

Listen: Derate the Hate: “Your Brain on Tribalism: Why It Derails Relationships & What You Can Do About It”

What motivates the red co-coordinator of Washington State? “I like a good conversation– not quite a fight– but a really good debate.”

Braver Angels is not all immigration and tariff policy. In northern Minnesota, a town used our techniques to ask–and answer–an existential question.

Maury Giles outlines the hallmarks of a courageous conversation. Pro tip: “If your primary motivation is to win, score points, or expose flaws, step back.”

WHAT HE SAID

We started talking with some people who are real immigration experts and leaders, both on the conservative side and on the more liberal or progressive side, and one person said, “you know, we’ve been fighting each other for the last couple of decades, and… I’ve not really had a significant conversation…with people on the other side.” So, at the national level, it was a sense of, "well, what if we just did that?"
