Help us choose convention debates!

The Debate Team is cooking up our slate of convention debates. (Did we intend for that to rhyme? Yes we did.) We are preparing fresh resolutions on topics delegates have asked about: Youth & Tech, Queer Activism, Voter ID, Immigration, AI, the Founding, and more. Debate leaders Cynthia O'Brien, Natalie Laroche, and Móni Guzmán (among others) have been invited to chair.

But we need your help choosing our resolutions, and you know what that means: A POLL! Click here to help us narrow our list.

Bonus Content: Want to practice your debate skills ahead of the convention? Join us for Resolved: Christian practices have no place in US government, June 2nd from 8-10pm ET. Click here to sign up.

1776-2026: A Pledge Renewed

That’s the theme for our June 25-28 convention in Philadelphia, and if you haven’t yet seen the full agenda, you can check it out here. Resting your eyes? No problem! Click here to listen to Pennsylvania state co-coordinators Bill Madway and Dave Wagner talk through the program on WITF’s The Spark with Asia Tabb.

1:1 Conversation Volunteers Needed

Have you seen the testimonials from our 1:1 Conversation Volunteers? One great takeaway: "People are interesting but you will never know until you talk to them." If you agree, you're probably ready to sign up for a May 25th event  that pairs volunteers with 60 students (from Brigham Young University and Allegheny College) for 1:1 Conversations. Most of these will be Conversations across Generations, so if you're curious about where the youth are at right now (and maybe have a little wisdom to share), click here to go to the 1:1 Conversations page, and then sign up by clicking the red button on the right.

IN THE NEWS

While our Citizens Commission has been talking about bridging the divide on immigration, Colorado gun rights and anti-violence advocates have been bridging it on gun policy.

Listen: Derate the Hate: “Gun Rights and Gun Safety Don’t Have to Be Enemies”

After five years of using BA-style debate on their campus, Virginia Military Institute’s Center for Leadership and Ethics is kicking it up a notch.

A key principle in BA’s theory of debate is “disagree accurately.” So what could be better than hearing members define the terms “liberal” and “conservative”?

Folks in Wichita, Kansas were actually scared to have a public discussion about a possible sales tax hike. They got braver when they got…angels.

WHAT SHE SAID

We can’t look at these issues directly, perhaps. At least not all the time. But we can... dissent from the slogans and the arrogance of righteous certainty.
