Film Club next week: Eighth Grade

Courts are ruling that social media is addictive and puts the mental health of young people at risk. What do you think? This month, BA Film Club invites you to watch Director Bo Burnam’s Eighth Grade (2018) then attend an online discussion made richer by the wide variety of viewpoints that participants hold. The film follows 13-year-old Kayla as she deals with her social anxiety by creating motivational vlogs on YouTube, striving for views and acceptance even as she is often ignored by peers. Watch the film on your own, then click here to join us for the discussion on April 29 from 8-9:30pm ET.

Streaming options are available here.

Eighth Grade is rated R for profanity, intense situations and sexual content

You can read about all things Braver Angels in this newsletter each week-- we love informing you! Did you miss a national event? We've got a YouTube channel where you can catch it. But if you want more detail on what's going on in the world of courageous citizenship, you may want to cue up some of the amazing podcasters/YouTubers showcasing our work. If you're looking for audio-visual content that carries the BA message, check out Wilk Wilkinson's Derate the Hate, Richard Davies' How Do We Fix it?, Martha Engber's Vigilant PositivityEach offers thought-provoking, nuanced discussion from both sides of the divide-- brought to you by the folks working to bridge it.

Five Braver Angels walk into a Twitterstorm...

Some mud got slung at BA on X (formerly Twitter). Or did it? Sometimes it’s hard to tell. Instead of slinging back or staying silent, National Ambassador John Wood Jr. and Director of Media Systems Wilk Wilkinson, along with Alliance Co-Chairs from Illinois, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, used the courageous citizenship playbook to engage. Click here to read Wilk's explanation of why “bridge-building is not an invitation to abandon your convictions at the door.”
