Sad News

I heard this week from Eleanor Farrel that Deb Jones passed away last weekend.

"I .. thought the community should know that she passed away on Saturday, July 8, after her nearly 3 year bout with glioblastoma. A service will be planned later in the summer for a time that works for the family...  Debby and I were friends for almost 50 years and I will miss her very much.

 Such sad news about Deb Jones. She was an incredible costumer and a lovely person to talk to. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Nora and I were shocked and dismayed that we had not been alerted to Deb Jones’ passing.   We only found out about during an Archivists’ meeting last night.  Normally, we’re on top of this kind of news and make an announcement on the Gallery Facebook page.   Apparently, people had assumed we knew.   I’ll take partial responsibility for having not seen this email until now – I’d been remiss in keeping up on the BOD list and ICG announcements the last few months, due to family health matters and the passing of my father. 

 

I want to make a plea to all Board members – PLEASE make sure ALL the Archivists know about any deaths in our community.   This is especially important for Nora and me, who may not know everyone who was most active in the 1980s or earlier, and we want to make sure they get recognition in the annual video memorial.  Deb Jones was one of the 18 people I count as having defined Masquerade Costuming as an art form.   I would be mortified if she was left out.
