I was just looking at the Yahoo Group archive files and it looks likwe any of the 'files' that have names that look like they're subdirectory names -- the name ends in a '/' and they don't have a file size -- leads to the dreaded Page 404 File Not Found page.

Is there any way to find what might be in these sub-directories?

Do you have any information about the file that might help us?

Hi Anne,

I think that you are looking at the ICG-BOD Files area. Unfortunately, the crawler that was used to archive the Yahoo Group was not able to capture Files subdirectories due to technical restrictions with Yahoo Groups. As you noted, these appear with a trailing '/' in the directory listing. It would have required more time to archive them by hand than we had before Yahoo groups shut down. We are very grateful that at least that the crawler was able to capture the discussions and polls completely.

Please let me know if this answers your question.

I don't have anything specific about any files since I was just looking, but here is more about what I see:

From the ICG BoD meeting group, I click on:

ICG-BOD Yahoo Group archive (2000-2019): Files

I get a bare-bones directory of files and what look like file directories.

If I click on anything that looks like a file -- it has a number for 'size' -- then either a file opens in my browser, or it downloads to my hard drive if it's big.

If I click on anything that looks like a directory -- the name ends with a '/' and don't have a file size like:

2003 Membership Survey/
Administriva/

I get the 404 error page, like the directory isn't there.  Has anyone else tried clicking on these directories.

Thanks for letting me know. I had thought about omitting the Files option for the Yahoo Group archives, but there was some useful content at the top level, and the directory listing provided some information about what else used to be there.

Has anyone tried finding these on the wayback machine? I have absolutely
no expertise with that resource. But if someone knows how it works,
might we recover those files from there?

My experience with the Wayback Machine is that it archives public web pages/contents, not files.  But I did find a related Yahoo! Groups archive page:

The problem is that when I look for their spreadsheet file to see if ICG-BOD group might be there, it says that the file is not downloadable.  Don't know where to go from there.
