Hi,

does WunderLINQ have anything to do with it?

This is BMW's own solution and has nothing to do with wunderlinq. But similar in system to the wunderlinq. I find good in the BMW system that the cell phone holder with wireless charging is integrated. I am curious what it costs and what you can additionally control and display with the app. I will definitely take a look at it.

Unfortunately, we have nothing to do with it except to create the idea.  :(

It is more expensive than the WunderLINQ (don't remember the exact price), and it only works with the sh**tty BMW Connected app.

But feel the pain for the WL guys. :(

In the videos you can see what works and it is ultimately displayed what is also possible via the navigator.

The Cardle costs 221.00 euros in Germany.

I have ordered it and will compare it with WunderLINQ.

In Germany (where the BMW is built), the BMW Connected Ride Cradle is significantly cheaper than the wunderlinq. The BMW Connected Ride Cradle costs about 220 euros in Germany, the Wunderlinq 279 Eruo plus 12.95 euros shipping.
For the Wunderlinq, I had to buy a cell phone holder from SP-Connect and the Wireless Charging Module from SP-Connect for a total of over 100 euros. That's all included with the BMW Connected Ride Cradle. Together, it cost almost twice as much as the BMW cradle. I find the price from BMW okay.

I have the mount now and that is from the software really well done by BMW.

However, the mechanical bracket is not good from my point of view.

This will be a tough nut to crack for WunderLINQ.

If WunderLINQ can also support the software solution from BMW, that would be a big advantage.

First, the BMW Motorrad ConnectedRide Cradle is only available in the EU at present - US is not BMW's largest customer. Secondly, The App is limited to only what BMW wants to integrate with. Currently, that is the BMW "built-in" Nav App - which is limited to using TomTom Maps. The menu's that can be controlled by the wunderwheel are just as limited as the BMW Nav5/6 were. So, if you want to run one of the many Nav Apps that are currently integrated with WunderLINQ App, you can but if you are expecting the wunderwheel to control them - well, you are out of luck (at least on iOS/iPadOS - I don't do Android). BMW's objective is to keep riders in the BMW ecosystem so that they have access to your riding habits and bike data.

They are quite creative in their lock-in strategies. Their app only works in landscape mode if you use their dock. In case you have been naughty enough to buy a $10 one on eBay.

But I also have the feeling that the development of the wunderlinq app has stalled. There has been no real news for a long time, although much more would be possible with the app and the system. That is a bit of a shame. Here I would have liked a more active further development.
In Germany, the BMW Connected Ride Cradle is currently sold out at almost all dealers, I think it will sell well. How it looks worldwide remains to be seen.

Hi All,

Sorry for our delayed official response on this, the announcement of the Connected Cradle completely caught us off guard.  Here is our official response.  Wayne and I would like to assure everyone that we are still committed to the WunderLINQ.  We apologize that news can be kind of light at times, that has more to do with the fact we are engineers :)  We have some cool stuff in the works that we hope to announce at the beginning of the year.  Our app development has slowed a bit publicly but behind the scenes, we are working on a complete UI redesign that should come with some performance increases and allow running the app on older Android phones.

As always we highly recommend submitting and voting on feature requests on the GitHub projects, this helps us prioritize the features we work on.  Also if you have any thoughts on improvements/changes to the WunderLINQ app user interface, please send them here.

Thanks again for everyone's support

Keith and Wayne

Hi Keith,

Looking forward to the new updates.

You may recall I mentioned in an email to you that if you bring out a solution that allows owners to remove the cradle all together and plug your adaptor directly into the BMW harness (the cradle harness plugs into the main harness on the right-hand side of the bike near the horn) then owners can mount their own phone mount (I use the Quadlock with wireless charging) in place of the BMW cradle.

This will provide a much neater solution and a better solution than the BMW Connected cradle which is a cradle sitting on top of another cradle.

I'm not interested in the BMW solution as it doesn't control a music app.

Hello,

I had also told that to Keith, to make a direct connection to the cartool plug. You can do it with a little trick but happy is not.

But it also goes in a slim version and only with the Garmin/BMW mount.

P.S. You can also with the BMW solution additionally control his music via the TFT display.

If you don't have a TFT then you are out of luck for music with the BWW solution.

Can you tell me how you did the setup in the first picture?

Thanks,

Hi!
I also placed the Wunderlinq somewhere else. If you disassemble the orignal BMW Navigation mount there is enought space on the right side of a BMW GS, behind the air intake panel.
Above the Speedometer I only have mounted the SP Connect Mirror Mount with AntiVibrationModule.

The solution is muuuuch nicer than the BMW Cradle or anything else.

@ Keith  : I really do believe it was shocking to you that BMW has now the Connected Ride Cradle, but be sure...your solution is much better :)
Only improvement I would wish is a new frontend - the BMW one looks nicer and "newer" ... But I am pretty sure you will also create something great.

I simply clicked WunderLINQ into the navigation holder and then installed together on the motorcycle.

Hello Keith and Wayne,

I wish you a happy new year.

I am very happy that you are working on new solutions but I also want to tell you that the acceptance of the BMW solution is very high. Many are switching to the solution or want to do so.

I see difficult times ahead for WunderLINQ if they don't succeed in making your solution so different that there are clear differences. Also the price of the BMW solution is an argument to take the BMW solution even if it is not better.

I hope you will find the right way and convince more APP manufacturers of your solution.

I think you will have a close look at the BMW solution with the app and the operating concept could also be an idea for WunderLINQ.

I am looking forward to what is coming and please be more active in marketing, otherwise the customers will be gone soon.

Best regards from Germany

Thorsten

As I see it, big bad BMW has stolen the WunderLINQ concept with their new connected ride cradle. I would like to see WunderLINQ come back by figuring a way to get the WunderLINQ to work with the BMW connected app. That would show the finger to BMW. Come on Keith and Wayne, I'm sure you can do it!
I have a WunderLINQ on my R1250RS (TFT), so I have a vested interest!

Regards from South Africa,
Wally.

Hello,

I see it exactly like Thorsten (Th G). The BMW Connected Ride Cradle is very popular.
Unfortunately, I miss a further development of the wunderlinq. There is hardly any news and of the announced innovations (which?) is also nothing to be seen yet. The last real innovation was the "New Adventure and Sport Dashboards" from April 2021.
I hope the further development and marketing of Wunderlinq will be pushed more actively in the future.
Currently, I do not know if I would buy the wunderlinq again or rather the BMW cradle.

Greetings

Hi Keith and Wayne,

What about the promised cool stuff now? The year is already 2 months old and there is still no news! It has become very quiet and I am worried that wunderlinq will not continue. No big news, no further development, no ....

Should we be worried?

Greetings

Hello from Hamburg,

I watch the last few months very excited and also wonder why it has become so quiet.  That now the Garmin Overlander is supported is certainly great for someone but for the mass of users completely uninteresting.

BMW drivers are currently buying the BMW Connected Ride Cradle as if possessed and BMW is said to have thousands of them on backorder.

If I hadn't chosen kurviger.de as my navigation software, I probably wouldn't be using WunderLINQ today either, because the overall solution, except for the actual smartphone mount, from BMW is very good.

I wish very much that there are new cool and useful solutions but please do not limit it to just a different design or any cosmetic changes.

From my personal point of view I have the following wishes:

- An option to hide the music display
- An option to hide the top status bar permanently
- Animation for the weather to see the progress of rain clouds
- PIN code for Bluetooth pairing, as anyone could connect to the adapter as soon as it is powered
- Reduce power consumption of the WL app
- Be able to push phone calls into the background when making a call via the BMW TFT to be able to see the navigation again
- Also offer values from the smartphone in the statistics fields, such as temperature, battery level, etc.
- Optical and/or acoustic feedback, if long press was executed/recognized
- Navigate to the next gas station, has e.g. with Kurvige.de no function (please note in the app with which app it works)
- Selfie only in 4:3 - please change to 16:9 or offer selection
- Improve contact access, as contacts are not displayed
- Display of records & waypoints only in portrait format please also in landscape format
- Partially missing translations or the translations overlay other displays (records & waypoints)
- Support for the BMW Connected App or Connected Ride functions
- Support TomTom Go
- Support Calimoto

I think WunderLINQ is very good but the air is getting thinner, unfortunately.

Hi at all,

truely spoken I am getting a bit nervous regarding the further Wunderlinq Development.

The last news update were regarding new Apps that support Wunderlinq - but that´s nothing new from BlackBoxEmbadded. It´s work that has been done by others, isn´t it?
The last bigger update was about the "New Dashboard" from April 7th 21, but from my side - these dashboards don´t work quite well. And...that´s almost it.

Please don´t get me wrong - Wunderlinq works good and I use it every time I sit on my bike, but nevertheless users are looking forward to some minor and major updates. Especially the front end could be better.

As Thorsten mentioned: "If I hadn't chosen kurviger.de as my navigation software, I probably wouldn't be using WunderLINQ today either, because the overall solution, except for the actual smartphone mount, from BMW is very good."

Can you please give us all an overall status update - at least what is planned for the future? Is there any kind of roadmap or anything like this?

Regards
Michael

Hi,

I am also very disappointed! There has been no feedback from Keith or Wayne here for over a month. Support requests are not answered in a timely manner. What is going on? There is no news. I thought the wunderlinq idea was great, but it can't go on in the current way. I hope Keith and Wayne read this and give us all an explanation.

Many greetings

Hi All,

Sorry, we are so quiet, again we are only two people working on the WunderLINQ and focus our time on development and support and kinda lack on the PR side.  I'm the sole developer, support person, and webmaster.  :)  The best place to see what is going on is on our GitHub profile.  Here you will see the things that are happening before they even go into our beta.  We also usually release a couple of betas a month.  All in all, I think we are more transparent than BMW or Garmin in this regard.  Also, nothing to fear even if we go under our apps are open-source, someone could pick it up if they wanted to :)

I'm currently working behind the scenes with Navigation app companies, support emails, and new developments.  Most emails to our support email are answered within 24hrs unless I'm away.  Below is what is actively being worked on:

Things coming up very soon:
* New Nav App for Android and iOS with WunderLINQ support
* Android 5.0 support
* Android API31 targeting/support
* New Quick Task UI
* Dashboard for bikes without data.

Longer-term:
* Source code cleanup
* Overal performance improvments.
* Complete dashboard overhaul
* UI enhancements - Looking for ideas here

Thanks again for everyone's support and understanding.

Hi Keith,

I'm afraid I have to ask what the current status is.

You announced that the following is coming soon:

* New Nav App for Android and iOS with WunderLINQ support

Is that meant to support inRoute and Cartograph Maps now or are you working on other Navi Apps?

Specifically, I would like to know if there is any work on the support of

TomTom Go
Calimoto
BMW Connected App

is being worked on.

Looking forward to your reply.

Hi Thorsten,

3rd party apps require work from their developers,  we have approached the developers you listed and keep track of the current status in our Github issues list.  You can find links to those listed at the bottom of this page.

Thanks
