Hi guys,

I am an incoming sophomore and I would like to read Campbell biology this summer and self-study AP Biology. Does anyone have any tips for self-studying AP biology and reading Campbell? Should I read first then take notes? What's a good plan?

In addition, does someone have an AP biology study plan/outline or even Campbell study plan?

Let me know!

I would suggest taking notes as you read, while there exist a lot of premade outlines, I feel that my own notes always help me remember the ibfiormation better. One thing I also did was make up my own questions and flashcards in quizlet so when I went back to review I could use those questions to fill in any lapse of reasoning that might be difficult to explain via notes. I would suggest spending a day or two on each chapter in the beginning since the first time you read campbells there is a lot of terminology and lingo that you will not be used to. After you finish the book take a few practice tests and gauge where your weakenesses are and prioritize those sections in your review. I highly suggest not only reading campbell several times but expanding your bio knowledge outside of just campbell and to other bio books such as ravens. Let me know if you have any other questions, you are still young but its always nice to have a head start.

Reading Campbell is a good idea but it’s quite long, so I suggest taking notes while reading because not a lot of people go back to read over all of it again. After going over the book, you should watch Khan Academy and buy the Baron’s AP biology prep book or cliffs notes. These books provide mock tests and lab investigations that come out often on the test. Make sure to also practice FRQ questions posted on the collegeboard AP biology website. Good luck!
