Dear Students and Parents,


We are thrilled to announce that Biolympiads Academy is now coordinating registrations for the 2026 National Biology Competition (NBC), hosted by the University of Toronto.

This prestigious annual event is a fantastic opportunity for secondary school students (grades 9 to 12) to test their biological knowledge against peers globally. After a successful transition to an online format, the competition continues to be a premier challenge for aspiring biologists.


Competition Overview

  • Date & Time: The exam window starts on April 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM EDT and ends on April 9, 2026, at 8:30 AM EDT.
  • Format: A 75-minute online exam consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions.
  • Content: Questions are developed by faculty from the University of Toronto's departments of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and Cell & Systems Biology. (Available in English only).
  • Scoring: One point is awarded for correct answers, while one-third of a point is deducted for incorrect answers to discourage guessing. No points are deducted for unanswered questions.
  • Requirements: Calculators are not permitted.

Eligibility & Team Recognition

  • Any secondary school student (or first-year CEGEP student in Quebec) is eligible to be an official contestant.
  • Team Awards: Schools or groups with at least 5 eligible students are automatically entered into the team competition. The top five scores are totaled to determine the school's rank.


Registration Details

As your coordinating body, Biolympiads Academy will handle the purchase of student seats and proctoring coordination.

  • Registration Deadline: Our internal deadline to secure your seat is March 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM EDT.
