SCALING AUTONOMOUS INTEGRATED GLOBAL eDNA OBSERVATIONS (SAIGe) 

Call for Expressions of Intent to apply for the OBON-SAIGe Microgrants - Phase II

OBON is pleased to announce the opening of a Call for Expressions of Intent to apply for the OBON-SAIGe microgrants aiming to accelerate eDNA monitoring by supporting 1-year projects involving topics such as autonomous sampling, standardising protocols, building data infrastructure, expanding reference libraries, and citizen science initiatives using eDNA kits. 

This funding is part of the Scaling Autonomous Integrated Global eDNA Observations (SAIGe) Collaboration, supported by Minderoo Foundation

Please read the SAIGe Funding Procedures of this call before submitting an Expression of Intent.  

Who Can Apply?
To maximise impact and advance OBON’s objectives, this call will prioritise proposals that involve Members of the OBON community (i.e. OBON projects and working groups).

All applicants must demonstrate that their proposed project is based in the Western Pacific region.

For this call, the West Pacific priority countries will be developing countries and territories within the Western Pacific Region (including IOC-WESTPAC Member States and additional Pacific Island States) that are also listed on the OECD DAC list of ODA recipients
Funding Levels
Applicants may request support under the following categories:
  • 10K Microgrant – up to £10,000
  • 25K Microgrant – up to £25,000
  • 50K Microgrant – up to £50,000
How to Apply
1. Submit an Expression of Intent (EOI) via the online form: Expression of Intent - Microgrant OBON-SAIGe II 2026
  • Opens: 15 May 2026
  • Deadline: 31 May 2026
  • Invitation to submit a full proposal: If your EOI is selected, you will receive an invitation by 12 June to submit a full proposal.

  • Final decisions will be released by the end of August 2026
Reporting Requirements
Successful applicants will be asked to provide a 6 month interim report, and a final report no later than a month after the microgrant has ended. 
Duration of Funded Activities
Activities funded under this call should be completed within 12 months of award
