Could we be well served in having a social media group for our discussions and announcements, rather than just this email list? Just saying. :-)

Exactly. Facebook seems to be the go-to platform for these kinds of groups.

Discord group would be a great idea! Allows for all things communication! Casual, professional, announcements etc…

I don’t really have social media but would like to still receive updates on SVBC !

Just my 2 cents

Best,

I would prefer Discord or Slack.  I stopped using Facebook eons ago.

Hi All,

Thanks for raising this issue and for being involved in SVBC! The local teams and you all's involvement is key to the organization's ability to push for safer streets more quickly.

To provide what I hope is some helpful context, SVBC runs a dozen local teams and plays the backend administrator helping y'all organize yourselves to lobby for safe streets. To keep things easy on our end, we, after much discussion and deliberation with local teams over the years, have chosen certain communications tools to use across all local teams.

Ultimately, we have found that when it comes to communications tools, everyone has different needs and different preferences. Slack has been suggested by some teams. FB has been suggested. Discord. And then the next new thing will be suggested. There is a certain amount of time that it takes to vet ideas and comms channels and we do, annually, survey local team members to see if there is a majority desire to do things differently.

I'll also highlight too that any time we make these kinds of changes people get very upset. So it's something that we would do very thoughtfully.

I hope that helps provide some context.

That said, we hope you all will join the next Biketevist Forum where we'll be talking about a very important way for the team to make a difference in San Jose - through the City's budget.

I had the same thought, and ended up creating a slack workspace a couple of years ago called Mountain View Advocacy for local advocates to connect and share information. It has since grown beyond a forum for discussing active transportation work and now includes discussions on other topics relevant to our community. It often gets used as a forum for advocates to coordinate talking points before and during meetings, including Council meetings. It's been helpful in our community. It's an open workspace, so please feel free to reach out if you'd like an invitation to join.

Cheers!
April

Happy to join, but I guess what I am saying is that we are missing an a little more publically available social media group to discuss bicycle related issues in, in our area. (And I guess I mean discussions related to, what should one say, utilitarian biking, policy and infrastructure questions, as opposed to, say, sport/exercise biking. The latter there are already local forums for.)
