Hi Bruce and April,

Forwarding this information to you, in case you would like to participate and/or forward to your team. Santa Clara County BOS will be voting at 1pm on a Flock contract renewal for Los Altos, and Mountain View City Council will be voting on a staff recommendation to cancel its contract with Flock.

A state assembly person recently authored a bill that, if passed, would require Class II and Class III ebikes to be registered and carry license plates. I greatly hope that law doesn't pass, but if it does, then presumably ebikes will also become trackable by ALPRs. So hopefully this gives greater importance for cyclists to help oppose these contracts.

Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan recently introduced the so-called “E-Bike Accountability Act”, which would mandate license plates and registration for all Class II and Class III ebikes in the state.  I greatly hope that law doesn't pass, but if it does, then presumably ebikes will also become trackable by ALPRs. So hopefully this gives greater importance for cyclists to help oppose these contracts.

I’m reaching out to uplift upcoming opportunities to protect our privacy by removing Flock Safety and Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) from Santa Clara County, which is an issue that our group has been taking tabs on! Overwhelming evidence shows that local agencies across the country and Flock have grossly mishandled our personal automatic license plate reader (ALPR) data by sharing data with ICE, racially profiling Black and Brown communities, stalking religious minorities, targeting people seeking reproductive and gender affirming care, and harassing individuals exercising their First Amendment rights to protest. Mass surveillance does not keep our public safe, but endangers all our residents.

This upcoming Tuesday, February 24, let’s fight to end this AI mass surveillance system that tracks our every move! RSVP here (https://tinyurl.com/noflock-scc) and share the link!

Hi Kim,

Thanks for sending all this info. I would love to join you but I have a Water District board meeting tomorrow so am unable. That said, I've cc'd Jordan with the Bike Coalition since this used to be something we were very actively involved with. I'm not sure if the org is still tracking or involved so I'll leave it to Jordan to take it from here and help get the word to others in the bike movement that might be in alignment.

Take care~
Shiloh
