This is do or die time for buffered bike lanes on Hollenbeck. We need your help. Too many people think convenient extra parking is more important than making Hollenbeck much safer and attractive for bicycling. Every house on Hollenbeck has at least 4 parking spaces and some have many more. There is plenty of additional parking just around the corner for every house.
Currently most of Hollenbeck has no bike lanes. This critical route connects the Sunnyvale Caltrain Station and Downtown to my section of southern Sunnyvale as well as Cupertino, West San Jose, and Saratoga. Going south from Hollenbeck there are buffered bike lanes in Cupertino. We need this section of Hollenbeck to have buffered bike lanes as well.
I ride up and down Hollenbeck all the time to go to the library, the train station, and city hall. I'm a strong, brave, and fearless cyclist but most are not.
Our kids need safe passage on Hollenbeck and it serves several schools including Cumberland, Challenger, Sunnyvale Middle School, and Fremont High School.
Plus we are moving far too slowly to reduce climate change and increase physical and mental health. Safe bicycling routes help all of us.
3) Let me know if you plan to speak in person or on Zoom at the final decision making council meeting on December 2nd, 2025 starting at 7pm.
I'll be there in person at this Dec 2nd council meeting and hope you will join me. Attending in person has the biggest impact but signing the petition and sending an email also help.
You may or may not currently ride Hollenbeck, but I hope you will take action to at least help save my life from crashes as well as that of many kids. And help all of us reduce climate change. Thanks!
Sincerely,
Tim Oey
