Hi Mountain View / Los Altos Team,
StanfordNext is Stanford University’s new long‑term land use and growth plan that will guide how the university adds academic space, housing, transportation infrastructure, and sustainability improvements on its existing lands over the coming decades. In past expansion efforts, Stanford has promised to invest in road upgrades, better bike and pedestrian connections, more student and workforce housing, and more sustainable transportation options—but those commitments have often fallen short of what neighboring communities, workers, and students say is needed.
Because Stanford controls vast amounts of land and receives billions of dollars in property tax exemptions, local governments and residents lose out on revenue that could otherwise fund schools, transit, and community services—while many Stanford workers still cannot afford to live nearby. That is why it is critical for our base to track StanfordNext closely and insist that this plan truly delivers on housing affordability, transit access, and safe biking and walking networks that benefit the broader community, not just the campus.
You can learn more about StanfordNext and register for the December community open houses here: https://next.stanford.edu and through community partners like SV@Home’s event listing. SVBC now sits on the StanfordNext advisory council, and will be pushing hard for bold commitments on bike, pedestrian, transit, and road safety—so please stay tuned for our alerts, show up to the open houses, and help hold Stanford accountable to a just, community‑centered vision for its future growth.
