Girls basketball hit the road last evening to face Clifton Central with a spot in the RVC Championship game on the line, after a coin flip determined the Comets would host the matchup. It was another intense chapter in a growing rivalry between the two teams, who split their regular-season meetings with each side defending its home court. Clifton struck first, edging out an 11–7 lead at the end of the opening quarter, but Beecher quickly responded with its trademark energy on the defensive end. The Bobcats’ feisty defense and timely plays swung the momentum in the second quarter, allowing Beecher to claw back and take a slim 19–18 lead into halftime. Both teams continued to battle through a physical and tightly contested third quarter, with Beecher again finding a way to win the period and carry a three-point advantage into the final eight minutes. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the fourth quarter proved to be the difference. A few costly mistakes down the stretch put Beecher in a hole late, and despite a strong effort, the team was unable to recover as Clifton closed out a 45–40 victory. Beecher was led offensively by Gianna Bonomo with 12 points, while Madison Smith added eight. Despite the loss, the Bobcats showed resilience and competitiveness throughout, pushing one of the conference’s top teams to the final buzzer on the road. The ladies will look to bounce back quickly as they are home Thursday hosting Grace Christian in the RVC third-place game.
