program introduces
undergraduate and
graduate students
to career paths in
the field of
patent law.
Program
Goals
More
than any other
field of legal
practice, patent
law calls for
attorneys who are
technically
minded,
scientifically
literate, and up
to date on the
latest
innovations. The
School of Fish
program seeks to
familiarize
today’s aspiring
scientists and
engineers with the
opportunities that
exist in this
unique and
challenging
profession and
help them take the
first steps toward
pursuing a career
in patent law.
Program
Structure
School
of Fish is a
free educational
series that
takes place in
five virtual
sessions each
Friday from
October 2 –
October 30,
2026, followed
by an in-person
workshop in
Fish’s
Washington,
D.C., office,
the week of
January 4, 2027.
Participants
will learn about
the basics of
patent law,
investigate
possible future
career paths in
the legal
industry, take
part in resume
and interview
workshops, and
attend social
and networking
events.
Part
1: Virtual
Seminars
In
this series of
virtual
conferences,
students will
learn about the
various practice
areas within IP
law, investigate
potential career
paths, and meet
with practicing
Fish attorneys and
technology
specialists.

Dive
into the world
of patent
prosecution:
Explore the life
cycle of a
patent,
including
drafting claims,
filing
applications,
and obtaining
registrations
from the U.S.
Patent and
Trademark
Office.

Explore
the intricate
world of patent
infringement and
the strategies
of enforcement
and litigation
and participate
in a mock
litigation
program.

Experience
a day in the
life of
professionals at
the heart of the
IP field,
including
technology
specialists,
patent agents,
draftspersons,
and attorneys.

Gain
insights into
the educational
journeys and
career
trajectories of
accomplished
patent
professionals
and learn about
the various
academic
backgrounds that
can lead to a
rewarding career
in IP law.

Candidates
