Job Title: College Assistant (Hourly)
Location: Student Financial Services Call Center (currently a hybrid role) Part-time

POSITION DETAILS
The Student Financials Services Call Center at Brooklyn College is seeking a part-time College Assistant to provide customer support over the phone to students, staff, faculty and visitors. Services provided include the following: scholarships, financial aid, bursar/student payment, check distribution, and recreation passes. The College Assistant reports to the Student

Financials Services Call Center Supervisor will be responsible for:
▪ Answering student inquiries via phone accurately and in a timely fashion.
▪ Handling general inquiries regarding online & in-person student services.
▪ Assisting students with online services.
▪ Reviewing student records; referring records to supervisors for further review.
▪ Collaborating with other departments to answer student inquiries.
▪ Analyzing student account information and financial aid eligibility.
▪ Assisting with student outreach efforts.
▪ Adhering to student privacy laws, and ensuring that all student records remain secure.
▪ Adhering to school and departmental policies and procedures.
▪ Performing other related tasks as assigned.
▪ Must be able to work 20 hours per week, preferably between the hours of 9:00 am and
6:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of the college or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration. There is one Assignment Level for this position. All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as needed. Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year.
▪ Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records, operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards, act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required.
▪ Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials.
▪ Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports.
▪ Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals.
▪ May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports.
▪Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, −directories and schedules.
▪ May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*
Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.
*During remote services period: PC with Windows Operating System and workspace to take/make phone calls.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
▪ High School diploma or GED is preferred.
▪ Knowledge of—and/or experience with—good customer service principles and practices.
▪ Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
▪ Knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and Outlook.
▪ Experience handling sensitive and confidential information is a plus.
▪ Knowledge of CUNYfirst is a plus.

COMPENSATION
$15.61 per hour *
* Compensation subject to increase with contract implementation.
