GOVERNMENT RELATIONS EMERGING ISSUE   New World Screwworm – Impacts on Health, Interstate Travel with Dogs   Since the beginning of June 2026, cases of New World Screwworm (NWS, hereinafter screwworm) have been detected in southwest Texas and New Mexico. These are the first cases of NWS in the United States in 60 years. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and state departments of agriculture and health officials are working together to address the issue.      HEALTH & SAFETY   Summer Barbecue Tips for Dog Owners   Spending time outside when the weather is warm invites cookouts, pool parties, and long days spent outdoors. While many dogs love to spend time outside, there are some safety precautions to keep in mind. Teach your dog to roll the soccer ball around with their nose! To get started, you will just need your dog’s bowl and a soccer ball. Start training this game on carpet so the ball does not roll far away and result in your dog chasing the ball.      AKC HUMANE FUND AWARDS FOR CANINE EXCELLENCE   Nominate a Dog Today!   Each year, the AKC Humane Fund gives six awards to hardworking dogs for making significant contributions to an individual or entire community. Winners will be featured in made-for-tv content produced by the American Kennel Club. Anyone, including the dog’s owner or handler, may submit a nomination.
