Hey Everyone,

The 8 pm Feature Band next Tuesday, January 14th will be Sophie Wellington & Friends. Originally from Staunton, VA, Sophie Wellington is a graduate of Berklee who draws inspiration from Old-Time fiddle music, percussive dance, and jazz improvisation. These influences, along with her unique upbringing and training, lend to her individual sound and spontaneous approach to music. Sophie Wellington performs around the Boston area with highly acclaimed bands Dumpster Debbie and The Talking Hearts, and she will be joined on this show by some incredibly talented musicians.

The Uppergrassmen will be playing the 7 pm Opening Set immediately beforehand. The Uppergrassmen are made up of some of the area's most talented multi-instrumentalists, two of whom play in the Boston-based progressive and traditional bluegrass band, Seselia. The Uppergrassmen feature Caleb Isreal Swan (fiddle) Leo Austin-Meuhleck (mandolin), Max Petersen (banjo), Caleb Kibby (guitar), and Wes Shuck (bass).

And as always, Bluegrass Tuesdays features some of the best bluegrass jamming around all night long. Steve and Eric’s Third Set Jam gets started around 9:15, and folks are usually jamming at the other end of the restaurant and elsewhere, before and long after that.

Please check out these amazing bands coming to Lily P's soon:

About Bluegrass Tuesdays at Lily P’s

Bluegrass Tuesdays began in Central Square in Cambridge in September of 1993 and has since grown to host regional and national artists on stage and serve as a weekly gathering place for the local bluegrass community. For 27 years, Tuesday Night Bluegrass at The Cantab Lounge was hosted by Geoff Bartley, about whom reviewer Nate Dow wrote, “If Massachusetts were ever to appoint a Folk Laureate, the honor would have to go to the one and only Geoff Bartley." Geoff welcomed nationally-known bluegrass artists to the stage such as Dale Ann Bradley, Tony Trischka, Darol Anger, David Grier, Missy Raines, Jim Hurst, Chris Jones, Molly Tuttle, and the late James King. Bluegrass Tuesdays have also been a place where many bluegrass musicians have met and “cut their teeth”, including members of The Infamous Stringdusters, Crooked Still, Della Mae, The Gibson Brothers, The Steep Canyon Rangers, Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen, The Po' Ramblin' Boys, Mile Twelve, and Joy Kills Sorrow. Bluegrass Tuesdays are now hosted by Tony Watt and held at chef Chris Parsons' restaurant Lily P's Fried Chicken & Oysters in Kendall Square in Cambridge.

Walker (guitar) will be joined by Boston-area favorites Gretchen Bowder (banjo), Julie Metcalf (fiddle), Dan Africk (mandolin), and Michael Siegel (bass).

Hey Everyone,

After a few weeks off, Old-Time Almost Fridays returns tonight (Thursday, January 30th) with Zach Meyer & The Flat Earth Rounders! The Flat Earth Rounders were our final band to perform last year and they put on such a great show that we couldn't wait to have them back! They will be performing at 7 pm tonight followed immediately at 8 pm by an advanced-level Old-Time jam led by the band. At the opposite end of Lily P's, there will be a Beg/Int Jam at 7:30 pm (please note the later start time) hosted by Kurt Werner, and an Int/Adv Jam at 8:30 pm (also later) hosted by J Johnson. Please check out the Old-Time Almost Fridays webpage for more details and upcoming artists.

The 8 pm Feature Band next Tuesday, February 4th will be The Wabash Cannibals. For those who aren't familiar with them, The Wabash Cannibals feature our founder and host-emeritus: folk icon Geoff Bartley. Geoff started hosting Tuesday night bluegrass at The Cantab Lounge over 30 years ago and worked tirelessly to build the night into one of the most successful and longest-running bluegrass nights in the world!

The Wabash Cannibals, as the name implies, is a contemporary bluegrass band playing music with an emphasis on entertainment and a nod to tradition. Band members include Howie Tarnower (mandolin), Geoff Bartley (guitar), Lauck Benson (banjo), and Eric Levenson (bass). The band is the current incarnation of Boston City Limits, which was formed in 1985 for a European tour. Members over the years have included Chris Jones, Hiro Arita, Matt Glaser, Flynn Cohen, and Andy Hall, among others.

Alayna Maysie Band will be playing the 7 pm Opening Set immediately beforehand. Recent Berklee grad Alayna Maysie is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who grew up in rural Illinois and her music reflects influences from bluegrass and old-time to pop and beyond. Sammy Wetstein’s fiery cello playing brings a passionate energy to the group, and Caleb Swan’s mastery of a variety of instruments, including mandolin, banjo, and fiddle, allows the group to create a sound that seems larger than three people.

And as always, Bluegrass Tuesdays features some of the best bluegrass jamming around all night long. Steve and Eric’s Third Set Jam gets started around 9:15, and folks are usually jamming at the other end of the restaurant and elsewhere, before and long after that.

Hey Everyone,

Old-Time Almost Fridays continues tonight (Thursday, February 6th) with two of the most talented songwriters in all of traditional music: Mark Simos & Jon Weisberger! Writing together and separately, Mark and Jon have written for artists such as Alison Krauss, Del McCoury, The Infamous Stringsdusters, and Billy Strings (among countless others). Mark is also an award-winning Old-Time fiddler who won the prestigious fiddle contest at Clifftop. Mark and Jon will be performing at 7 pm tonight followed immediately at 8 pm by an advanced-level Old-Time jam led by the duo. At the opposite end of Lily P's, there will be a Beg/Int Jam at 7:30 pm (please note the later start time) hosted by Andrew Tanis, and an Int/Adv Jam at 8:30 pm (also later) hosted by Cathy Mason. Please check out the Old-Time Almost Fridays webpage (https://bluegrasstuesdays.com/old-time.html) for more details and upcoming artists.

The 8 pm Feature Band next Tuesday, February 11th will be Evan Murphy & Friends. Evan is the guitar player and lead singer in Mile Twelve, one of the hottest bands to come out of the Boston area, and a group that got their start at our former home, The Cantab Lounge. Evan was featured at the IBMA's Songwriter Showcase in 2018 and was nominated for an IBMA Momentum Award as Vocalist of the Year. Evan will be joined by some of the most talented musicians in the Boston area and you won't want to miss it!

The 7 pm Opening Set immediately beforehand will be a showcase for Tony Watt's NE Flatpicking Camp featuring Isaiah Gardham & Aiden Schnell (along with yours truly). My brand new flatpicking guitar camp which I've modestly titled Tony Watt’s NE Flatpicking Camp, will be held March 28th – 30th at a recently renovated hotel in Hadley, Mass. (between Amherst and Northampton). Instructors include Kenny Smith, Chris Luquette, Betsy Rome, Flynn Cohen, Evan Murphy, Alex Rubin, Dave Dick (Camp Luthier), and over 10 more talented teachers with even more to be announced soon! Registration for camp is now open and we just announced a Professional Track, where campers will take classes alongside the instructors themselves! Please visit https://tonywattbluegrass.com/camp/ for more info, and come check us out next Tuesday at 7!

Hey Everyone,

Old-Time Almost Fridays continues tonight (Thursday, February 20th) but unfortunately, Alan and company won't be able to join us. It's nothing untoward, just a bit of bad luck is all. But given the short notice, we're going to forgo a band on stage in favor of more jamming! Chris Reckling will be hosting an epic two-hour-long jam in front of the stage from 7 until 9 pm. And at the opposite end of Lily P's, there will be a Beg/Int Jam at 7:30 pm (please note the later start time) hosted by J Johnson, and an Int/Adv Jam at 8:30 pm (also later) hosted by Annie Rouillard. Please check out the Old-Time Almost Fridays webpage (https://bluegrasstuesdays.com/old-time.html) for more details and upcoming artists.

The 8 pm Feature Band next Tuesday, February 25th will be Chris Sartori & Friends. Chris is the long-time bass player for one of the most successful bands in the Boston area, Twisted Pine. He is also an in-demand sideman having played on our stage many times, but this will be his first time leading his own group. Chris (on bass) will be joined by Max Wareham (banjo), JB Cardineau (mandolin), Sam Stage (fiddle), and Micah Nichol (guitar).

The 7 pm Opening Set immediately beforehand will be a showcase for Tony Watt's NE Flatpicking Camp featuring Jack Holland & Caleb Swan (along with yours truly). My new flatpicking guitar camp will be held March 28th – 30th at a recently renovated hotel in Hadley, Mass. (between Amherst and Northampton). Hey Everyone,

Old-Time Almost Fridays continues tonight (Thursday, March 6th) with Annie Rouillard & Friends. Annie Rouillard is a fiddler, singer, and teacher in great demand who performs in Long Lost String Band. Annie will be joined by some very talented musicians, but you'll have to join us to find out who. Annie Rouillard & Friends will be performing at 7 pm tonight followed immediately at 8 pm by an advanced-level Old-Time jam led by the group. And at the opposite end of Lily P's, there will be a Beg/Int Jam at 7:30 pm (please note the later start time) hosted by Zach Meyer, and an Int/Adv Jam at 8:30 pm (also later) hosted by Joel Wennerstrom & Ben Bruno. Please check out the Old-Time Almost Fridays webpage (https://bluegrasstuesdays.com/old-time.html) for more details and upcoming artists.

The 8 pm Feature Band next Tuesday, March 11th will be The New Grown-Ups! Winners of the 2024 Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival Band Contest, The New Grown-Ups blend traditional folk, country, blues, Celtic, Old-Time, originals, and bluegrass into a snafu of contemporary acoustic music. Described by Bluegrass Today as "skilled musicians with electrical rollicking enthusiasm", this band has an infectious onstage energy that comes from loving the music and each other. The 8-piece(!) band includes Bluegrass Tuesdays regulars Julie Metcalf (fiddle), Lisa Pinals (fiddle), Lindsay Straw (guitar), Ben Leddy and Ben Truboff (trading off on mandolin, banjo, and guitar), Cecily Mills (cello), Dan Africk (guitar), and Mike Siegel (bass).

The 7 pm Opening Set immediately beforehand will be Hound & Handler. Hound & Handler is a high-energy bluegrass/Americana band from Boston who released their debut LP ‘Lies & Advice’ in September 2023. They deliver lively originals centered around the struggles of establishing oneself in a time & place where the vast majority of money is funneled straight to the fortunate few, leaving the rest of us to fight for scraps. Established in 2021 as an Americana band including drums and occasional electric guitars, the band has since honed in their bluegrass roots, and features Sean Davis (mandolin), Ross Kiah (guitar), Joe Everett (bass).

And in other news, we are now up to four(!) distinct jams scheduled nearly every week at Lily P’s (more details online at https://bluegrasstuesdays.com/jams.html):

5:15 pm – My Beginner-to-Intermediate Bluegrass Jam continues to meet nearly every Tuesday, but you'll have to email me to be sure. This is a "teacher-directed" jam where we never know what songs we're going to play, but we're limited to no instrumentals and no very fast nor very complex songs.

Hey Everyone,

Adam Hurt is one of the most (if not the most) exacting and musically-satisfying clawhammer players in the world today (Banjo NewsLetter, May 2017). Deemed a "banjo virtuoso" by the Washington Post, Adam Hurt has fused several traditional old-time idioms to create his own elegantly innovative clawhammer banjo style. Adam will be joined by his regular music partner Beth Williams Hartness, with whom he has performed throughout the United States as well as in Australia and the United Kingdom.

Adam and Beth will be performing at 7 pm tonight, followed immediately at 8 pm by an advanced-level Old-Time jam led by the duo. And at the opposite end of Lily P's, there will be an Int/Adv Jam hosted by Cathy Mason at 8:30 pm (please note: there will be no 7:30 pm Beg/Int Jam tonight). Please check out the Old-Time Almost Fridays webpage (https://bluegrasstuesdays.com/old-time.html) for more details and upcoming artists!

The 8 pm Feature Band next Tuesday, May 20th, will be Mark Schatz & Bryan McDowell. Mark should be familiar to many of you as one of the most important bass players in the history of bluegrass music. His discography reads like a who's who of bluegrass music, including albums with Tony Rice, Bela Fleck, Claire Lynch, Della Mae, Sarah Jarosz, Nickel Creek, John Hartford, Tim O’Brien, Jerry Douglas, Mark O’Connor, and The Bluegrass Album Band. But you might not know that Mark grew up in Lexington, MA, so this will be something of a homecoming show for him.

And Mark's duo partner, Bryan McDowell, is one of the most talented young musicians in all of bluegrass music. Bryan has also played with a who's who of bluegrass including being a side-person and/or session player for Tony Rice, Bryan Sutton, Claire Lynch, Sierra Hull, Ron Block, Josh Turner, Mountain Heart, Alison Brown, Bobby Osborne, Molly Tuttle, Lee Ann Womack, Missy Raines, East Nash Grass, John Reischman, and John McEuen. Bryan was also the first person in history to win the contests in guitar, mandolin, and fiddle at the National Championships in Winfield, all in the same year - and he did it all in the first year he ever went there!

Evan Murphy & Friends will be playing the 7 pm Opening Set immediately beforehand. Evan will be joined by some very talented musicians, and you won't want to miss it!

Hey Everyone,

Old-Time Almost Fridays continues tonight (Thursday, May 22nd) with Pieces of Grain: Zach Meyer & Alex Barstow. Zach and Alex are the mandolin and fiddle contingent of the highly acclaimed local Old-Time band Grain Thief. Zach and Alex will be performing at 7 pm tonight, followed immediately at 8 pm by an advanced-level Old-Time jam led by the duo. And at the opposite end of Lily P's, there will be a Beg/Int Jam hosted by Chris Reckling at 7:30 pm and an Int/Adv Jam hosted by Joel Wennerstrom & Ben Bruno at 8:30 pm. Please check out the Old-Time Almost Fridays webpage (https://bluegrasstuesdays.com/old-time.html) for more details and upcoming artists!

The 8 pm Feature Band next Tuesday, May 27th, will be mandolin Legend: Don Stiernberg & Jerry Wicentowski! Don Stiernberg and Jerry Wicentowski, longtime collaborators and current members of the bluegrass band Third Coast Bluegrass, share a deep appreciation for early American brother duets and first-generation bluegrass. Inspired by legendary acts like The Monroe and Louvin Brothers, the duo blends traditional harmonies with modern influences – Don’s swing/jazz mandolin and Jerry’s soulful bluegrass vocals. Their performances often include classic duets, swing-infused tunes, and tributes to Mac Wiseman, whom Jerry honored in his acclaimed album Thanks, Mac!

Don, based in Chicago, is one of the most famous jazz mandolinists and teachers with decades of experience, including mentorship under the legendary Jethro Burns. He leads the Don Stiernberg Quartet and offers online mandolin lessons. Jerry, originally from New York City and now also living in the upper Midwest, is known for his clear, expressive voice and deep respect for bluegrass traditions.

Cold County will be playing the 7 pm Opening Set immediately beforehand. This Boston-area band is comprised of a group of friends originally hailing from Indiana, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Canada, and Northern Ireland. Cold Country is a high-energy band featuring soaring harmonies, Old-Timey instrumentals, and a blend of old traditional songs, country-style barn burners, and new and old takes on contemporary tunes. Cold County consists of Bruce Bagnall and Ryan Fess (guitars), Tara Macneil (fiddle), Alyssa Parker (vocals), Luke Hanlin (mandolin), James Cappelletti (banjo), and Austin Granger (bass).

The 8 pm Feature Band next Tuesday, June 3rd will be Simon Brogie and The XLTs. You may remember Simon as the banjo player and singer of Bluegrass Tuesdays favorite The Hosmer Mountain Boys, but with the XLTs, Simon has taken center stage to front his own band of long time friends. Simon (on guitar) will be joined by Peggy Harvey (fiddle), Greg Donlan (banjo), Phil Lee (guitar), Peter Faulkner (bass), plus special guest Dr. Richie Brown on mandolin!

Lindsay Straw & Andy Cambria will be playing the 7 pm Opening Set immediately beforehand. Montana-born, Berklee-educated multi-instrumentalist Lindsay Straw is as comfortable in American roots music as she is the world of traditional Celtic music. You can see her work on her YouTube channel, where her videos often have tens of thousands of views. Andy Cambria is an accomplished flatpicker, singer, and songwriter, as well as one of the many knowledgeable musicians at The Music Emporium in Lexington, Mass.

Hi Everyone,

After nearly three unforgettable years, Bluegrass Tuesdays have grown beyond anything I could’ve imagined – thanks in large part to our incredible home at Lily P’s. Sadly, Lily P’s will be going on hiatus in the middle of next week, so please join us this Tuesday, June 10th, for our final night in this amazing space!

We’ll celebrate chef/owner Chris Parsons for his incredible generosity, the wonderful staff, and everything we’ve built together as a community. The originally scheduled bands have kindly stepped aside so we can have an Open Stage all night. Whether you bring a song, a story, or just yourself, I hope you'll join us in honoring this beautiful chapter.

While this goodbye will be heartbreaking for so many people (and I’m right there with you), I’m feeling deeply optimistic. The Bluegrass Tuesdays community is stronger than ever in its 30+ year history, and Lily P’s played a huge part in that. As we turn the page, I’m asking for your help with two things:

(1) Keep the music going – starting Tuesday, June 17th!

We’ll resume our weekly outdoor jams at the Russell Field Playground near Alewife in N. Cambridge. It’s less than a quarter-mile from the end of Route 2, has ample parking, and is less than a five-minute walk from the Alewife T Station. We’re also hoping to move Old-Time Almost Fridays jams there on Thursday nights too, so stay tuned for more details soon!

(2) Please help us find our next home for Bluegrass Tuesdays!

Lily P’s will be a tough act to follow, so I’m asking everyone to help join in the search. Please keep an open mind – it doesn't have to be a bar or restaurant, nor does it have to be in Cambridge or even within 128. It could be a church or community center, or maybe a school or hotel (with or without a bar/restaurant). Our top two criteria are:

1. We’re looking for at least five separate indoor jamming areas available year-round (this is our absolute top priority, and more would be even better)

2. And it must have some amount of parking nearby (so not in Harvard Square, the Theater District, Newbury Street, etc.)

If we can meet those two criteria, the next two most important are:

3. Ideally, we’d love to present a show each week (but it's not as important as our top two criteria)

4. It would be great if it were available every Tuesday night (but it's not a deal breaker)

And our final two most important criteria are:

5. Having food and/or drinks available would be a bonus

6. Subway access would also be a plus

If you can think of a potential venue, please let me know! No need to reach out to them yourself – in fact, it’s probably better if I do. But the more ideas we gather, the better our chances.

One more thing: I could really use some last-minute help next week. I'm looking for a place to store the stage, and somebody with a vehicle big enough to transport it. Even if you can only do one or the other, please let me know!

Finally, I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who has been involved with Lily P's in so many different ways: jammers and jam hosts, performers, audience members, Chris and his family and staff, various kinds of helpers, and on and on. As amazing a space for Bluegrass Tuesdays as Lily P's has been, it was brought to life by all of you. Thank you all so much for helping create such an amazing community!

With deep gratitude,

Tony Watt

Hey Everyone,

As we announced last Friday, tomorrow night (Tuesday, June 10th) will be our final night at Lily P's! I hope you'll join us to celebrate this beautiful chapter and everything we’ve built together as a community. We'll have an Open Stage all night, so bring a song, a story, or just yourself!

Our search for our next home for Bluegrass Tuesdays has already begun, and we need your help! Please visit www.BluegrassTuesdays.com for a complete description of the kinds of places we're looking for.

Tomorrow night's schedule is still a bit up in the air, but we will be having our four regularly scheduled jams (more details online at www.bluegrasstuesdays.com/jams):

5:15 pm – Beg-to-Int Bluegrass Jam (email tony...@gmail.com to join)
6:30 pm – Kelley's Intermediate Bluegrass Jam
6:45 pm – Slow-to-Medium Instrumental Jam hosted by Mark
7:00 pm – Wayne's Intermediate-to-Advanced Bluegrass Jam

And then starting next Tuesday, June 17th, we’ll resume our weekly outdoor jams at the Russell Field Playground near Alewife in N. Cambridge. It’s less than a quarter-mile from the end of Route 2, has ample parking, and is less than a five-minute walk from the Alewife T Station. We’re also hoping to move Old-Time Almost Fridays jams there on Thursday nights too, so stay tuned for more details soon!

Here's what we learned about jamming at the Russell Field Playground last time:

(1) There are two parking lots on Rindge Ave. on either side of the little league park (Comeau Field): the lot with the cul-de-sac (to the west of the field) is usually full, but there's tons of space in the lot to the east of the ballpark, which is the lot for the Francis J. McCrehan Swimming Pool at 359 Rindge Ave., in Cambridge, MA 02140 (please note this is not the same location as Russell Field, which is the football field next-door)

(2) We mostly jammed near the sprinkler spot (a.k.a. splash pad) near the yellow canopy, which is between the pool, the playground, and the ballfield

(3) There are working port-a-johns right there, so everyone can have that true "bluegrass experience"

(4) Please bring a folding chair (preferably without arms)

(5) It's not as well lit as some people might like, so if you have a small camping lantern, you might want to bring that as well

(6) Mosquitos were mostly not an issue, but you still might want to bring bug spray or wear heavier clothes, as long as it's not too hot

Starting with the outdoor jam on Tuesday, June 17th, the regularly scheduled jams will be shifting to a new schedule:

6:45 pm – Beg-to-Int Bluegrass Jam (email tony...@gmail.com to join)
8:00 pm – Kelley's Intermediate Bluegrass Jam
8:15 pm – Slow-to-Medium Instrumental Jam hosted by Mark
8:30 pm – Wayne's Intermediate-to-Advanced Bluegrass Jam

Please let me know if you have any questions whatsoever, and I hope you can join us tomorrow night at Lily P's!

About Bluegrass Tuesdays

Bluegrass Tuesdays began in Central Square in Cambridge in September of 1993 and has since grown to host regional and national artists on stage and serve as a weekly gathering place for the local bluegrass community. For 27 years, Tuesday Night Bluegrass at The Cantab Lounge was hosted by Geoff Bartley, about whom reviewer Nate Dow wrote, “If Massachusetts were ever to appoint a Folk Laureate, the honor would have to go to the one and only Geoff Bartley." Geoff welcomed nationally-known artists to the stage such as Dale Ann Bradley, Tony Trischka, Darol Anger, David Grier, Missy Raines, Jim Hurst, Chris Jones, Molly Tuttle, the late James King, and later The Kevin Prater Band. Bluegrass Tuesdays have also been a place where many bluegrass musicians have met and “cut their teeth”, including members of The Infamous Stringdusters, Crooked Still, Della Mae, The Gibson Brothers, The Steep Canyon Rangers, Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen, Twisted Pine, The Lonely Heartstrings Band, Mile Twelve, Joy Kills Sorrow, and many more.

Bluegrass Tuesdays are now hosted by Tony Watt, and from October 2022 until June 2025, were held at chef Chris Parsons' restaurant Lily P's Fried Chicken & Oysters in Kendall Square in Cambridge. While at Lily P's, Bluegrass Tuesdays welcomed additional nationally-known artists including Danny Paisley & The Southern Grass, Special Consensus, East Nash Grass, Missy Raines & Allegheny, Mark Shatz & Bryan McDowell, Rick Faris, Joe K. Walsh, Compton & Newberry, Sami Braman's SamiBand, The Foreign Landers, The Tray Wellington Band, Liam Purcell & Cane Mill Road, and more.

Hey Everyone,

Although it looks increasingly likely that it will rain this afternoon, it actually looks less likely that it will still be raining this evening. I will be bringing multiple pop-up canopies (a.k.a. E-Z UPs), so we should have a good bit of protection if it does rain. Anyone else who has an extra E-Z UP is invited to bring theirs as well. So despite the threat of rain, I hope you can still join us for the jams tonight at the Russell Field Playground near Alewife in N. Cambridge!

Hey Everyone,

A couple of days ago, we had our first bluegrass jam night at the Russell Field Playground, and it was a huge success! Despite some light and brief rain, we had four simultaneous jams for most of the night with about 25-30 jammers and listeners in attendance. Both the bluegrass and old-time jams will be continuing on Tuesdays and Thursdays respectively, unless the weather looks really bad.

As a reminder, we are still looking for the next home for Bluegrass Tuesdays, and we need your help! Please visit www.BluegrassTuesdays.com for a complete description of the kinds of places we're looking for. Suggestions have been coming in, but we still need more!

(6) Mosquitos were mostly not an issue, but you still might want to bring bug spray or wear heavier clothes, as long as it's not too hot.

(7) If the weather looks really bad, we'll cancel the jams. But please don't let some light rain or a short summer thunderstorm keep you away! I'll have my pop-up canopies, and anyone else who has an extra E-Z UP is invited to bring theirs as well.

Both listeners and jammers are invited to the jams in N. Cambridge, and I hope you can make it out tonight and next Tuesday! Thanks so much,

Tony

Hey Everyone,

Important update: the old-time jams will now be starting at 7 pm on Thursdays!

This Tuesday we had a rain out, but we still had a bunch of folks show up. I'm sorry about that, but when I looked at my weather app earlier in the day, it looked like it wasn't going to be that bad. I'll try to get a more accurate prediction next time, and update everyone through this email if we're cancelling. Today's weather looks a little iffy, but not too bad, so I'd definitely recommend going if you can make it!

As a reminder, we are still looking for the next home for Bluegrass Tuesdays, and we need your help! Please visit www.BluegrassTuesdays.com for a complete description of the kinds of places we're looking for. Suggestions have been coming in, but we still need more!

Both the bluegrass and old-time jams will be continuing on Tuesdays and Thursdays respectively, unless the weather looks really bad. The jams are held at the Russell Field Playground near Alewife in N. Cambridge. It’s less than a quarter-mile from the end of Route 2, has ample parking, and is less than a five-minute walk from the Alewife T Station.

Next Tuesday, July 8th, Bluegrass Tuesdays regularly scheduled jams will be meeting on the following schedule:

6:45 pm – Beg-to-Int Bluegrass Jam (email tony...@gmail.com to join)
8:00 pm – Kelley's Intermediate Bluegrass Jam
8:15 pm – Ed's Slow-to-Medium Instrumental Jam
8:30 pm – Wayne's Intermediate-to-Advanced Bluegrass Jam

Here's what we've learned about jamming at the Russell Field Playground:

(1) There are two parking lots on Rindge Ave. on either side of the little league park (Comeau Field): the lot with the cul-de-sac (to the west of the field) is usually full, but there's tons of space in the lot to the east of the ballpark, which is the lot for the Francis J. McCrehan Swimming Pool at 359 Rindge Ave., in Cambridge, MA 02140 (please note this is not the same location as Russell Field, which is the football field next-door).

(2) We often jam near the sprinkler spot (a.k.a. splash pad) near the yellow canopy, which is between the pool, the playground, and the ball field.

(3) There are working port-a-johns right there, so everyone can have that true "festival experience".

(4) Please bring a folding chair (preferably without arms).

(5) It's not as well lit as some people might like, so if you have a small camping lantern, you might want to bring one.

Hey Everyone,

Important update: Bluegrass Tuesdays jams tomorrow night (Tuesday, July 8th) are moving to The Smoot Standard in Central Square in Cambridge!

Because of the rain forecast for tomorrow, Chris Parsons (chef/owner of Lily R.I.P's), has graciously invited us to move our jams to Lily P's sister restaurant, The Smoot Standard. The Smoot Standard has multiple jam locations, and is located at 313 Mass. Ave. in Cambridge, MA 02139. The kitchen will be open until 9 pm and drinks will be available late from JamBassador Jack!

As a reminder, we are still looking for the next home for Bluegrass Tuesdays, and we need your help! Please visit www.BluegrassTuesdays.com for a complete description of the kinds of places we're looking for. Suggestions have been coming in, but we still need more!

Despite the rain location, Bluegrass Tuesdays regularly scheduled jams will still be meeting on the same schedule:

6:45 pm – Beg-to-Int Bluegrass Jam (email tony...@gmail.com to join)
8:00 pm – Kelley's Intermediate Bluegrass Jam
8:15 pm – Ed's Slow-to-Medium Instrumental Jam
8:30 pm – Wayne's Intermediate-to-Advanced Bluegrass Jam

Hey Everyone,

We had a great time jamming on Tuesday at one of Lily P's sister restaurants, The Smoot Standard in Central Square in Cambridge. And thanks to Chris Parsons (chef/owner of Lily R.I.P's), we are expanding our Bluegrass Tuesdays jams to include both The Smoot Standard and the patio at Naco Taco two doors down. Naco Taco is owned by the same folks as Smoots and is another sister restaurant of Lily P's.

The very generous folks at Naco Taco are going to set aside part of their patio for us to jam every Tuesday night. That is in addition to the multiple jam locations also available to us at Smoots. That means that when the weather is nice, we'll be able to jam at both restaurants, and when it's raining, we can pile inside Smoots like we did this week.

Food and drinks will be available at both locations, but I cannot stress this highly enough: DO NOT carry alcohol between the two restaurants. You can purchase alcoholic drinks at either location, but you must finish your drinks there - you CANNOT carry them down the sidewalk between the restaurants. I'm asking everyone to please remind each other of this very important rule - thanks!

The Smoot Standard is located at 313 Mass. Ave. in Cambridge, MA 02139, while Naco Taco is at 297 Mass. Ave. Smoot's kitchen will be open until 9 pm, and drinks will again be available late from JamBassador Jack. One of the closest parking lots is named Lot 6 and it's located on Bishop Allen Drive between Douglass St. and Columbia St.
