Hi, all,
I'm happy to (re-) announce the (final) dates for PeterBARGE 2024 -- still November 10, a Sunday. As you might have guessed, this is somewhat less organized than last year. We (me, and my unindicted co-conspirators) are working to put together the event, but only the poker tournament is "final". More details to come.
Registration
We are space-limited. We are planning on seating for 54 people. After that we'll seat alternates. First-registered, first-served. Pay on-site for tournament.
Please fill out the form even if you're not playing in the tournament and just want to have dinner or hang out.
If this form doesn't work for you, you can email me at your own risk and I'll make an effort to account for you.
Saturday
We plan a dinner on Saturday evening, but the location, menu, and cost are TBD. We would like to get a headcount well in advance so we can inform the restaurant.
If you're in town anyway, why not play poker at one of the Bay Area's few and far-flung card rooms? Details in another post. Last year a bunch of us went to California Grand, and I want to get my money back.
I'd like to find someone to wrangle after-dinner karaoke.
Sunday
10AM - breakfast, sponsored by the Breakfast Club
11AM - $100 NL freezeout (unless Peter changes it)
Like last year, our host is the Pinball Pirate shop, run by defending champion and master of the home-field advantage Chris "Luckbucket" Kuntz.
3195 Park Rd, Suite D, Benicia, CA 94510
The tournament should end between 3:00 and 3:30 (a fast structure) with reindeer games to follow.
I ripped this part off from Sabyl's announcement last year, but I edited it and some typos to spice it up.
Travel
Oakland and SFO airports are your best bets. SFO is likely better for those on the east coast or who might want to spend some time exploring SF while here. Oakland will be slightly more convenient. SJC is OK, but it's a full one-hour drive to Benicia even without traffic.
The venues are not close, so car rental is most convenient, but Lyft or Uber are options as well. From Oakland, it's $50-75 to get to Pinole, and from Pinole to Benicia is probably $40ish. It’s $75-100 from Benicia to the Oakland airport.
If there is demand for a ride or rideshare page, we can set one up.
Hotels
Staying near Pinole or Benicia are likely your best bets. We do not recommend staying near the Oakland Airport based on crime in that area. Bay Area folks may be able to provide feedback on locations of lodging you may be considering. While we don't have first hand experience with these motels, here are some possible options near Peter or near the poker venue:
Near Pinole
- Days Inn in Pinole should be serviceable - nothing fancy and near where Peter lives and near where we hope to do dinner.
- Courtyard Marriott in San Pablo is a little further from the dinner venue but will be step up from the Days Inn.
- Hotel Mac in Point Richmond is in a quaint neighborhood and will have historic charm if you want a place with personality.
Near Benicia
- Union Hotel is also in a quaint neighborhood with historic charm and personality. Some rooms will have water views.
- Holiday Inn Express or Best Western will be your typical basic hotel room.
And of course, Air BNB may also provide options. If you coordinate with others, it is possible renting a home may be a better way to go than a motel.
I hope you can make it!

p.s. I looked at alternatives to the 11/10 date, and none of them were clearly better, but the 10th was slightly better for our location and for Peter. I'm sorry this doesn't work for everyone.
